Doge meme dog, Kabosu, passes away at 18; What happened?

BY JC Paredes 2 years AGO 2 MIN READ

Kabosu, the Shiba Inu who’s the star of the Doge meme and Dogecoin, crossed the rainbow bridge at the grand old age of 18.

A Beloved Dog Says Goodbye

Her human, Atsuko Sato, says Kabosu had been battling some senior pup health issues (leukemia and liver problems). Even with all the love and vet treatments money could buy, Kabosu passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.

Living the Long Shiba Life

18 years for a Shiba Inu (or dogs in general) is pretty amazing. These fluffy fox-looking doggos usually only make it to 12 or 15. Only a fifth of pups even see 15; even fewer hit the 18th mark. This could be attributed to her diet and the love she got from her family.

Meme Queen

Remember that picture of Kabosu with the raised eyebrow that broke the internet in 2010? That one picture turned into the Doge meme. But it wasn’t just funny; it inspired a whole new kind of money—dogecoin! It started as a joke, but now it’s a real thing with many fans.

Doge wasn’t just a meme queen, though. She became a symbol for the entire internet—funny pictures, adorable animals, and endless creativity. People made art, clothes, and even raised money for good causes—all inspired by Kabosu.

Kabosu’s Pawsome Impact

The internet feels pretty blue today, but we celebrate Kabosu’s life. Atsuko Sato always posted updates and pictures, so fans felt they knew this amazing dog. Her sweet personality and that unforgettable face made her a superstar online and in real life.

Fans are sharing their favorite Doge memes, drawing pictures of Kabosu, and donating to animal shelters. It’s a beautiful way to remember Kabosu and the joy she brought to the world. We might be saying goodbye to Kabosu, but her legacy will remain. The internet mourns, but we also celebrate the life of a doggo who became a global icon. Rest in peace, Kabosu. Thanks for all the smiles.
