Futuremark Introduces VRS Feature Test Via A Free Update To 3DMark Advanced and Professional Editions
Nvidia recently revealed the VRS feature for GPUs under the Turing architecture. The feature renders portions of the screen at different levels of detail. This focuses the GPU on the most important parts of the scene, thereby reducing the load on the GPU and improving performance. Nvidia showed an up to 15% performance bump in Wolfenstein Youngblood, after turning on the NAS feature. Today, Furmark introduced a free update to 3DMark Advanced and Professional Editions adding the VRS feature test.
VRS is broadly accessible to developers since it’s built into DirectX 12, Vulkan, OpenGL, and DirectX 11 (NvAPI). That makes it much easier for developers to incorporate in the game and hence we can see it a lot in games in the future. For now, Wolfenstein Youngblood supports the feature and Call of Duty Modern Warfare will be supporting it as well.
