Exploring Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji’s past in Demon Slayer

After being struck by Zohakuten’s compressed sound waves, Mitsuri falls unconscious and enters a state of complete shock. As the demon attempts to deliver the killing blow, the slayer’s entire life flashes before her eyes. She was born into a family of five siblings during the Meiji period, and her deep affection for Nezuko can be traced back to her childhood.
From a young age, Mitsuri possessed a unique muscle composition that set her apart from ordinary humans, astonishing even her mother, who was renowned for her own strength. The slayer’s exceptional physical prowess was evident when she was able to lift a heavy rock at a tender age.
Mitsuri grew up eating the same amount of food that three sumo wrestlers would eat, but she would not get unhealthy at all. Her hair color also changed to pink and green, which might be due to the fact that she ate a lot of sakura mochi.Â

When Mitsuri was just 17, she was rejected for marriage due to her unusual appearance, bright pink hair, and possessing superhuman strength typically seen as masculine. In an attempt to conform to societal norms, she tried dying her hair black and restricting her diet, causing her body to weaken.
Despite attracting a potential partner, she was unsure whether sacrificing her true self would lead to a successful relationship. Ultimately, it fell apart. However, fate had other plans for Mitsuri when she met Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the leader of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Why did Mitsuri join the Demon Slayer Corps?

When Mitsuri encountered Kagaya Ubuyashiki, he encouraged her to break free from societal norms that may cause harm to herself. He urged her to join the Demon Slayer Corps, where she could freely express herself without fear of judgment or shame. Kagaya also commended her for her exceptional abilities and assured her that with her skills, she could easily ascend to the esteemed rank of Hashira.
Mitsuri believed that joining the Demon Slayer Corps would allow her to express her true self without fear of societal rejection. She also hoped to find a partner who was stronger than her and could protect her. However, finding a suitable partner proved to be a challenge as no one could match her exceptional strength.
Under the guidance of Rengoku, Mitsuri underwent rigorous training in the Flame Breathing technique. Through her perseverance and determination, she developed her own unique style called the Love Breathing technique and was able to successfully pass the selection exams in an impressive six-month period.
Mitsuri’s life after joining the Demon Slayer Corps

In Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 1, Mitsuri reveals that she joined the Corps with the intention of finding a suitable husband.
In battle, she wields a flexible Nichirin Katana in the form of a whip, which proves to be effective in taking down demons. She has also developed a specialized form of breathing known as “Love Breathing,” which is perfectly suited to her natural strengths and abilities.
Despite facing numerous challenges and battles against demons, Mitsuri maintains her positive attitude and unwavering dedication to her mission. Her kindness and compassion for others also remains a defining trait, as she often goes out of her way to help her fellow Demon Slayers and even shows mercy to demons.
