“Inspired by true events” – What is the movie ‘Cocaine Bear’ all about?

Cocaine Bear Trailer

Paolo EscoBEAR may sound ridiculous but wait ’til you see a 200-pound rampaging black bear – who had just sniffed a whole pack of cocaine – charging towards you at full speed.

There’s no escape from a hungry bear, let alone a cocaine-imbued one. Your chance of getting out alive is almost slim to none. Inspired by true events, Elizabeth Banks’ dark comedy and thriller movie titled “Cocaine Bear” is derived from the infamous incident almost four decades ago, in Kentucky, U.S.A. The trailer was just released a while ago and immediately gathered the attention of viewers. Along with it, everybody is already asking – What is the movie all about? Why is it trending today? Why is everyone talking about this movie?

The “Cocaine Bear” of Kentucky

Back on September 11, 1985, police officers discovered a dead body in a driveway in Knoxville, Tennessee. The deceased’s identity was later revealed to be Andrew Carter Thornton II, a former paratrooper, lawyer, and cop who turned into a cocaine smuggler.

Thorton was trying to smuggle drugs from Colombia into the U.S. when his Cessna 404 was on the verge of crashing so he decided to jump off. However, his parachute failed to open, resulting in his untimely demise. When the officers found his body, he was carrying tons of cash and about 77 pounds of cocaine.

But, this bizarre story does not end there. Thornton may have died but his packs of cocaine are still out in the woods. A few weeks later, a dead black bear lay down dead in Chattahoochee National Park which a hunter discovered. Found beside the bear was another duffel bag containing what seemed to be cocaine. Apparently, the beast inhaled a handful of amount of coke leading to its death. The carcass of the animal was preserved through taxidermy and can be seen in the Fun Mall in Kentucky.

‘Cocaine Bear’ the movie: A mix of comedy, thriller, horror, gore, and hundreds of millions worth of cocaine

Starring the late Ray Liotta, Keri Russell, Kristofer Hivju Margo Martindale, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Brooklyn Prince, the movie revolves around an extremely violent black bear that goes around Kentucky and tries to kill everyone in its path after taking in a whole duffel bag filled with cocaine.

As seen in the trailer, contrary to popular belief, bears can climb trees and they do so at a faster rate than humans can. Imagine an apex predator that is out of its mind just out there looking for blood. Although the movie is far from what really happened in real life, it’s still insanely fun nonetheless. Big studios haven’t made comedy movies like this one and everyone are waiting to see it in the theaters. Additionally, this will be Ray Liotta’s final act on the big screen after he died while sleeping earlier this year. Rest in peace Ray!
