March 20, 2022 – The 11th seed Spurs handed a heartbreaking loss to the 3rd seed Warriors in a wild ending in Oracle Arena. San Antonio Spurs’ forward Keldon Johnson ended the Spurs vs Warriors matchup in a thrilling fashion with a crucial basket.
In the final seconds of that game, Johnson made a clutch putback after a missed free throw from Jakob Poeltl. He put an exclamation mark to a very close game, 110-108.

The Warriors were looking to secure the win before that play if only Andrew Wiggins made his second free-throw. He choked his second charity shot, allowing the opposing team to rebound the ball. The referees then made a questionable call as they call a foul on Kevon Looney during the rebound, which leads to a Poeltl free-throw.
- The Spurs were led by All-Star Dejounte Murray with 19 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds. Josh Richardson also contributed with 25 points, while Keldon Johnson put up 14 points.
- The Dubs were Curry-less going into this game but was spearheaded by the rising star Jordan Poole with 28 points, and another splash brother, Klay Thompson, who had 24 points.
What does this loss mean to the Golden State Warriors?
Actually, it does not affect their chances of going to the playoffs. They are currently the 3rd seed in the loaded western conference (47-28) and are once again championship contenders.
The only disappointing thing here is this should have been an easy win for the Dubs. If only Wiggins had not missed that free-throw, it would have put the Spurs in a tight spot. Andrew Wiggins is receiving backlash after that failed play since he was selected as an “All-Star Starter”. Since the All-Star break, he’s been inconsistent and couldn’t find his rhythm.
Additionally, Curry will be out for a few more weeks. He suffered a left foot injury during a game against the Celtics last March 17. This also puts them in a difficult playoff position, since there are still 11 games left in the season.
