A hundred million years ago, dinosaurs ruled the Earth long before humans took over. Many kinds of dinosaurs existed in the lands, waters, and even in the air. As they lived on all the continents of the world. That is why even if they are now extinct, their fossils are found in different countries.

In the latest news this month, a group of paleontologists unearthed a massive skeleton of a dinosaur. The fossil remains were located in Monte Agudo, Pombal, Portugal. It is now believed that it could be the largest dinosaur remains in Europe alone. So now, the question is what kind of dinosaur was it?
What is the largest dinosaur skeleton found in Europe?
The dinosaur was the Sauropod
- The paleontologists believe that the dinosaur skeleton is from a Sauropod. This kind of dinosaur is known to be a gentle giant as they are herbivores. They only eat and get nutrients from different plants. Moreover, their appearance is that they have very long necks, tails, and big bodies.
- This gentle giant happens to be one of the largest dinosaurs that ever existed. According to paleontologists, the size of the skeleton remains was around 39 feet high and 82 feet long. Then the parts of the dinosaur discovered were the ribs and vertebrae.
It was an unusual discovery
As per Elisabete Malafaia, a researcher from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She stated that “It is not usual to find all the ribs of an animal like this, let alone in this position, maintaining their original anatomical position.”
She then further explained, “This mode of preservation is relatively uncommon in the fossil record of dinosaurs, in particular sauropods, from the Portuguese Upper Jurassic.”
From the looks of the remains, it is fascinating how it was well intact so well even if a million years went by. It is certainly an amazing discovery as they began the excavation in 2017. Moreover, the team is going to continue excavating around the area.
There is no doubt that sauropods are one of the most majestic creatures that ever lived. As paleontologists from all over the world continue to unearth. We are still yet to discover the life of our past.
