Microsoft’s Xbox handheld plans revealed in patent application
It looks like Microsoft is set to enter the handheld gaming market after a patent has surfaced showing plans for a mobile version of its Xbox.
The patent application was submitted on 9 July and shows sketches of what the device will look like. According to the patent application, the Xbox handheld attaches to, and charges, an existing touchscreen device, like a smartphone.
The joypads are then clipped to the phone case turning the phone into a handheld gaming console. However, it’s unsure whether the console would play mobile games, or stream titles from Xbox Live.
Whether the plans actually make the light of day is unknown at this stage. But perhaps with the success of the Nintendo Switch, Microsoft has seen a gap in the market?
