“It’s playtime, wanna play?”
Poppy Playtime has been turning a lot of heads since its initial release in October 2021. This indie survival horror game had just been dropped a few months but the attention it is getting is already very massive. It’s been the talk of the town recently, and people are already wondering what this game could bring to the table. And, since the first chapter of the game is reportedly very short, how long or how fast can new players actually beat it? Well, let’s find out.
Chapter 1 Lore
Players will have to step into the shoes of an ex-employee of Playtime co. as they return to the factory 10 years after the disastrous event that took place in what was once the king of toy manufacturing.
- The first chapter is relatively short as you can just finish it in less than an hour. In the early stages of the game, you will be introduced to the backstory of Playtime co. factory. Next, you will be given a set of GrabPack or mechanical hands as a tool in the upcoming puzzles. Along the way, you will find clues and keys (literally) to mind-boggling puzzles and locked doors that will lead you further into the factory.
- In Chapter 1, you will encounter the first toy in the game, Huggy Wuggy. Although he appears to be cute, kind, and friendly, his looks could be deceiving. Later in the game, Huggy will chase you and try to devour you alive. Yes, alive! Though he did hand you a key for a locked door earlier, he does not mind putting you now in his big mouth with razor-sharp teeth. Fortunately, after a heart-pounding chase in the vents, you (The Player) will find a way to kill Huggy Wuggy, or do you?Â
- The first chapter concludes moments after you have “allegedly” killed Huggy Wuggy. After this scene, The Player will proceed to an ominous hallway that leads to a secret room where Poppy, the factory’s flagship toy, is being kept. After you open Poppy’s cage, everything turns black, marking the end of the first chapter.

How Long Can You Beat Chapter 1?
- For new players, the average time to actually beat the first chapters ranges from 40 to 45 minutes. Others can even narrow it down to less than 30 minutes. That is if you don’t die in the hands of Huggy Wuggy.
- There are even some guys already speedrunning the first chapter. The fastest one so far has a record of 7 minutes and 43 seconds. But, if you just want to enjoy and discover hidden things in the Playtime co. factory, you can always take your time. Who knows, maybe you will see more Easter eggs!
