Have you heard about the latest game coming from the team behind Poppy Playtime? PROJECT: PLAYTIME is set to release in Early Access this December and we honestly can’t wait to try the new team-based survival horror game! It might be a little late for Halloween, but one can never get enough of Poppy Playtime, right? So before we get to try out the game for ourselves, let’s have a little side-by-side of the two games, shall we? Here is PROJECT: PLAYTIME vs Poppy Playtime!
PROJECT: PLAYTIME vs Poppy Playtime
With Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 coming soon, MOB Games surprised everyone when PROJECT: PLAYTIME was announced. They released a cinematic story and gameplay trailer for the upcoming game while still keeping mum on the details about Chapter 3. To say that the trailers got us excited is a complete understatement.
Because of that, we couldn’t help ourselves to spot the differences between the two Poppy Playtime titles. Is one game better than the other? Will we have more fun playing PROJECT: PLAYTIME than Poppy Playtime? Dive in with us as we compare the two survival horror titles from MOB Games.
Gameplay
The very first difference between PROJECT: PLAYTIME and Poppy Playtime would be the gameplay. Both titles fall under the ‘survival horror’ genre but they do not have the same goal in mind.

- In Poppy Playtime, you play as a lone ex-employee who sets out on a journey to resolve whatever creepy stuff is going on in the Playtime Co. Toy Factory. You’re on your own as you try and outrun the horrors lying in wait for you. Aside from your handy dandy GrabPack, you’ll have to use your wits and bravery to navigate the Toy Factory

- As for PROJECT: PLAYTIME, it is an online multiplayer game where you take on the roles of a third-party organization for research purposes. Compared to Poppy Playtime where there is only one player, PROJECT: PLAYTIME has seven players. Six of these players are called the Survivors (or the Research Extraction Specialists) while one player is the monster
- The upcoming game is similar to other online multiplayer survival games like Dead by Daylight, Phasmophobia, and Identity V. The group of six players has one common goal: collect large toy parts to build a giant toy while surviving the monster lurking in the shadows. As for the lone seventh player, their only job is to sabotage and pick the Survivors off one by one before they can build the giant toy
Story
In terms of story, both games are way different from each other. Although they are set in the same Toy Factory, Poppy Playtime is more focused on the story compared to the upcoming online multiplayer game from MOB Games.

- Poppy Playtime follows a linear story split into chapters. These chapters are then released with a few months’ gaps between each part. After the mysterious disappearance of the staff at Playtime Co. Toy Factory, a former employee comes back when they receive a letter from inside. From there, they set out on an adventure filled with horror and shocking revelations about the real nature of the Toy Factory

- PROJECT: PLAYTIME doesn’t actually follow a linear story like Poppy Playtime. Because it is an online multiplayer game, players can expect that they will queue for matches. In these matches, they are assigned either the role of the Survivor or the Monster. The outcome of the story in the game depends on every match you play
- If you’re successful as a Survivor and build the giant toy, you’ll automatically win the match. On the other hand, eliminating all Survivors if you get the role of the Monster will help keep Research Extraction Specialists from annihilating the monsters dwelling in the Toy Factory
Characters
Both Poppy Playtime and PROJECT: PLAYTIME feature a roster of toys that look friendly but are hiding a sinister nature deep down. However, PROJECT: PLAYTIME introduces a group of characters called the Research Extraction Specialists and a new monster named Boxy Boo.

- The two games feature familiar faces like Huggy Wuggy and Mommy Long Legs but instead of former employees of the Toy Factory, PROJECT: PLAYTIME introduces the Research Extraction Specialists. In our opinion, they definitely look like human versions of the crewmates in Among Us. From the bodysuit down to the colors, their only distinction from the crewmates is the GrabPack they use to outrun the Monster in the Toy Factory

- Players who get the role of the Monster in a game of PROJECT: PLAYTIME can choose between three toys: Huggy Wuggy, Mommy Long Legs, and Boxy Boo. As of writing, there is no word from MOB Games on whether Boxy Boo will be part of the third chapter coming next year
Platform and Price
Finally, there are significant differences between PROJECT: PLAYTIME and Poppy Playtime in terms of platforms available and how much it will cost you. We mentioned earlier that Poppy Playtime’s story is cut up into different chapters. These chapters are released as DLCs on MOB Games’ official Steam page. On the other hand, PROJECT: PLAYTIME is a stand-alone game that the devs have revealed doesn’t involve any pay-to-win features.

- So far, there are two chapters out for Poppy Playtime. As of writing, the first chapter is free to download and play on Steam. Unfortunately, the mobile versions will still cost you a few bucks. The first chapter is available for $2.99 USD while the second chapter will net you $4.99 USD if you are playing on mobile
- Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 on Steam sometimes goes on sale, but its regular price is $4.99 USD. With all that being said, Poppy Playtime is only available for mobile and PC gamers

- Moving on to PROJECT: PLAYTIME, it is completely free-to-play. You do need to upgrade the abilities of your characters, but no purchases are necessary to do this. All you need to do is play to earn enough Toy Tickets to upgrade either the Survivor’s or Monster’s abilities. No word yet on whether purchasable cosmetics are going to be available for the characters of the Survivors and Monsters
- Unfortunately, PROJECT: PLAYTIME looks like it’s only going to be available for Steam users. Hopefully, MOB Games gets around to releasing a mobile version since mobile games are more popular than ever nowadays
Which game is better: Poppy Playtime or PROJECT: PLAYTIME?
When it comes to pitting the two games against each other, there is no clear answer to the Poppy Playtime vs PROJECT: PLAYTIME debate. Both games have different mechanics so it all comes down to a player’s preferences. Do you prefer a horror game with a solid story and you’re left to your own devices? Or do you prefer a game where teamwork is involved and the fear factor is reduced since you have others playing with you?

What makes us all the more excited for PROJECT: PLAYTIME’s release is the new experience it will give us. Finally, we’ll have a shot at being the hunters instead of being the hunted. Add that to the fact that we can have fun with our friends in the creepy halls of the Toy Factory!
