Rocket League: Battle Royale Mode Details, Release Date, and More

BY Katherine Felix 4 years AGO 2 MIN READ

A recent blog post from PlayStation announced that Rocket League is getting a new mode. In the new mode, Psynonix revealed they are removing the ball. Instead of scoring goals, the new and only objective in the game is to eliminate other players. Read on to find out more about the battle royale mode in Rocket League.

The battle royale mode in Rocket League involves eight players

According to the announcement, eight players go head to head against each other in the new mode called ‘Knockout Bash’. Moreover, this deathmatch mode adds new mechanics to Rocket League. Among these mechanics are blocking and grabbing.

To make use of these new mechanics, the new mode will have a “kill zone” for each map. Players need to drive their opponents into the kill zone so they can eliminate them. For this to happen, they can make use of the grabbing mechanics which Psyonix modeled after classic fighting games. Other additional mechanics are triple jumps, farther knock distance when attacking players, and adding more dodges.

If you get knocked out of the arena, you need to rev it up as fast as you can to get back to the safe zone. But if you don’t get back to the safe zone, you’re automatically eliminated which is similar to how battle royale games work.

Rocket League’s Knockout Bash is a limited-time event

But as exciting as the mode sounds, it won’t be a permanent mode in Rocket League. The battle royale mode starts this April 27th and will run until May 10th. Nonetheless, Psyonix aims to make the new mode as enjoyable as can be since it features new maps that ramp up the battle royale experience.
