Storybook Brawl Receives Negative Reviews After FTX US Buyout

Good Luck Games’ Storybook Brawl is a free-to-play auto battler in early access. The game had thousands of good reviews on Steam prior to the recent incident. Good Luck Games, on the other hand, declared a week ago that it had been purchased by cryptocurrency exchange FTX US. And this caused outrage among Storybook Brawl gamers.

Crypto vs Gamers

  • Cryptocurrency and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) appear to be the most talked-about subjects in practically every industry these days, including gaming. Many large game companies like Square Enix have hinted at plans to include NFTs in their game portfolios.
  • Consumer reaction, on the other hand, has been overwhelmingly negative. In certain cases, like Storybook Brawl’s recent experience, the response can even present itself in review bombings.

Following a barrage of criticism, the game’s recent reviews have shifted to “Overwhelmingly Negative”. While Storybook Brawl is a free-to-play game, users can easily participate in review bombing. This can generate a significant amount of negative evaluations that originate from players who have invested hundreds of hours in the game.

Good Luck Games Interested in Crypto

While Good Luck Games hasn’t revealed any specific intentions, its founder stated in a dev log video that the studio is looking into methods to use blockchain technology to make games more enjoyable for gamers. However, the founder also stated that his team is not under any obligation to do so, especially given the toxic environment around bitcoin and NFTs in the gaming world.

It’s no secret that when game developers and publishers express an interest in entering the crypto industry, they often face resistance.

While review bombing is still a thing in the gaming business, it’s usually not because the developer was bought out by a crypto corporation. Hopefully, this does not result in a significant drop in Storybook Brawl’s player count.
