Tidi titidi ti ti! Just like that Super Mario Bros. has bounced to new heights. Gamer or not, almost everyone has played Super Mario some of the time in their life. This 35-year-old game might have outdated graphics and a simple concept, but it is a game that inspired a generation of gamers and game developers. It seems like the OG game is not done yet as Super Mario Bros. just made a record and here is what we know about it.
A Record Sale

Often some leftover sealed copies of classic or OG games sell for a bucket load of money. The same thing is what just happened to Super Mario Bros. An unopened copy of Super Mario Bros. sold for a massive sum of $2 million for the title. This sale made it the most expensive copy of any video game ever sold in the history of gaming.
Last month a copy of Super Mario 64 sold for $1.56 million which was the previous highest record. Funny, isn’t it? The very next month, the OG game of the same franchise broke the record with a whopping amount of 2 million USD.
The Buyer
The buyer was anonymous, but we know that the game was sold directly by Rally. Rally is an equity share buying and selling platform. It sources collectible items and turns them into a company before splitting them into equity shares.
Apparently, Rally bought the Super Mario Bros. copy for $1,40,000 last April and rejected many bids before selling it for $2 million to this anonymous buyer. This anonymous buyer is reportedly making big bets in the video game space.
People are developing this newfound interest in rare or vintage video games, maybe due to the pandemic. Before these two records, an unopened NES copy of the original Legend of Zelda went for $878k. Ever since last year, the buying prices of such vintage games is on a tremendous rise. If this continues, we might see even this record being broken soon and who knows where it might end. One thing is for sure, this is indeed a great time for the gaming industry!
