Super Mario Maker 2 crosses 500,000 units sold in Japan

Super Mario Maker 2 has been a big hit for Nintendo, selling millions of copies worldwide.

In Japan, Super Mario Maker 2 has crossed 500,000 retail units sold, according to Famitsu.

After moving around 83,000 copies over the last two weeks, sales now total 537,000 in the country.

At last count, Nintendo reported 2.42 million units sold worldwide as of June. So Japan makes up roughly 22%.

Japanese users have started comparing weekly and lifetime sales of the original Super Mario Maker for Wii U and Super Mario Maker 2 which released for Nintendo Switch in late June 2019.

The list below shows sales of Super Mario Maker on the Wii U compared to sales of Super Mario Maker 2 on the Nintendo Switch.

From the 5th to 7th week, Super Mario Maker 2 is still selling between 35,000 to 38,000 copies, as compared to the 15,000 copies to 25,000 copies Super Mario Maker moved weekly.

As you can see the drop-off in Super Mario Maker 2 sales is pretty small compared to Super Mario Maker, and thanks to that Super Mario Maker 2 is now selling 1.5 times faster than Super Mario Maker as of its 7th week.
