Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Remake Confirmed by Ubisoft!
As technology progresses the OG games, which were once revolutionary, become obsolete and unplayable. That is one simple rule of the world that everything has a life cycle and ages out. The same is the case with Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell which came out nearly two decades ago. Well, Ubisoft Toronto has decided to move forward with the idea of a remake, which certainly is good news for the fans.
Splinter Cell Remake
Producer Matt West confirmed that the game was in the early stages of development and that it is a remake and not a remaster. Peter Handrinos (Technical producer) said that now that they have a new engine and a new console lifecycle to their advantage, tech is one area that would be significantly improved.
“We’re building it from the ground up, we’re going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world,” said Matt West.
Splinter Cell is being remade in the Snowdrop engine. It is an AAA engine that allows content creators to try things quickly, see what works, and ultimately find success. A new team is being built for the game development there are technical leadership positions open as well. Their aim as Peter stated is to bring fans something new, yet still, connect them to the feeling that they had while playing the OG game.
“With this remake, we are building a solid base for the future of Splinter Cell,” stated the Creative Director Chris Auty. This makes us believe that depending on the success of the game, we could also expect a full-blown franchise remake as well.
About Splinter Cell Series
Most of the Gen Z gamers must have heard about the Splinter Cell series or even played some of them. The series consists of 7 major games starting with Splinter Cell (2002) to Splinter Cell: Blacklist (2013). It was once considered the flagship Ubisoft franchise but since Blacklist there haven’t been any further developments in the series. So, this remake is the most exciting news we have heard from them in a while.
Interestingly the last game in the series, Blacklist, was also developed at Ubisoft Toronto. So, it seems like a great idea for the same studio to work on the remake. Splinter Cell series, as you might know, is a stealth shooter series with the protagonist, Sam Fisher. Sam is a highly trained agent of a fictional black-ops sub-division within the NSA, called “Third Echelon”. The player controls the protagonist to overcome his adversaries in levels.
