Ubisoft: New Complaints Arise, No Action From Management?
Last year, Ubisoft had received reports of sexual harassment and misconduct from a former developer at the gaming studio who had worked on Assassin’s Creed. They had first experienced such harassment and racist remarks in 2018 when she had first joined the gaming studio. Unfortunately, their reports and complaints were not taken seriously, and no action was taken.
- When they experienced harassment once again in the previous year, the Studio was under pressure from accusations of sexual misconduct at the workplace and inappropriate workplace culture.
- However, their complaints were once again ignored and swept under the carpets. This is despite the fact that the employee had reported the events multiple times in different ways; had also met HR managers and supervisors. Following this inaction, they resigned from the studio itself.
- Such behavior from the gaming company has led to a feeling of insecurity among its employees. They seriously question the studio’s commitment to creating a better environment.
- The studio went through some changes. They let go of people such as the former CCO, Serge Hascoet. A new head of diversity was then hired; a third-party agency now also review complaints from employees.
Ubisoft claims that there has been a resolution for each complaint. However, new complaints have emerged. Some managers facing accusations of inappropriate behavior remain in senior positions.
“Any employee that had allegations and remains at Ubisoft has had their case rigorously reviewed by a third party and were either exonerated or underwent appropriate disciplinary actions. Employees who have been under investigation would not remain at Ubisoft if results of investigations warranted termination.”

Fans and Employees React
The team developing Assassin’s Creed Infinity has been losing employees owing to the inaction and reorganization of people in the studio.
Kotaku, the video game website and blog, has reported that some former and current employees have stated that Ubisoft’s process for reports and complaints is a maze that leads to nowhere.
ABetterUbisoft, a platform from current and former employees, has been sharing testimonials with Kotaku. They state that though Ubisoft had promises changes, there are no actions about the complaints and call for accountability. The result has been a dismaying feeling among employees and fans of Ubisoft.
