The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a 70-foot glass bridge that extends out over the canyon’s rim on the Colorado River. Rope specialists tried their best to save the man, but the victim was pronounced deceased from the fall.

The County released a statement that two short-haul technicians responded with a Kingman DPS Ranger helicopter to the scene and determined that the man had died.

Victim’s identity has not yet been revealed

The Grand Canyon Skywalk victim’s identity and other details have not yet been revealed to the public by the authorities. As the silence around the incident continues, speculation keeps growing over what might have actually happened.

When the incident was first confirmed, some authorities shared the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline number on their social media posts. This points towards the possibility of the Grand Canyon Skywalk victim’s death being a deliberate act of suicide and not an accidental fall.

According to a Facebook commenter, it was reported that the victim stood on top of the railing before deliberately jumping.

However, until the investigation is complete, social media users are discouraged from rushing to conclusions and approach the incident with sensitivity.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk tourist attraction

Managed by the native Hualapai Tribe, the Grand Canyon Skywalk has become a significant attraction since its opening in 2007. With over 10 million visitors since then, it draws people from all over the world to witness the marvel of the natural wonder.

It is important to note that accidents at the Skywalk are extremely rare compared to the ones that happen to hikers who go the extra mile to explore the Grand Canyon. However, the recent incident shows that safety measures must be further strengthened.

There are about 12 deaths a year among the Grand Canyon’s 6 million visitors. However, most of them come from issues like dehydration.

Social media reactions to the incident

Apart from the speculation over the identity of the Grand Canyon Skywalk victim and the cause of his death, the incident has sparked debate on social media platforms like Twitter. While the Skywalk adheres to safety protocols, tragic incidents like this highlight the importance of frequent reviews.
