What happened to Vision? A recap. What to expect in the Vision Quest spinoff?

It has been more than a year since WandaVision debuted on our TV screens, kicking off MCU Phase 4 as the very first TV show spinoff. The Disney+ series is a breath of fresh air after Avengers: Endgame and it branches out to Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness.

We really never knew what happened to Vision as his story in WandaVision remains open-ended. There are no signs of the hero in the MCU Phase 5 and 6 Calendar, either. But news of Marvel Studios working on a project called “VisionQuest” explores Vision further. Jac Shaeffer(WandaVision writer) is on board as its writer to continue the story of the automaton.

So, let’s have a recap. How Vision came to be and what happens to him in Westview.

J.A.R.V.I.S.

Such wonder is Vision’s character arc as he starts in the MCU as just a really very intelligent system or J.A.R.V.I.S. for all of Tony Stark’s all-knowing tech buddy. His acronym was taken after the Stark family butler, Edwin Jarvis.

J.A.R.V.I.S. serves Tony as his intelligent user interface to run the business at Stark Industries. After Tony’s troubles with the Ten Rings in Iraq, he employs J.A.R.V.I.S. to assist him with the creation of Iron Man Mark II. Since then, it becomes the homestay interphase for all of Tony’s Iron Man suits until Ultron.

Vision

Just as the last three letters of J.A.R.V.I.S. were the prompt for the creation of Vision in Age of Ultron, Tony and Bruce first explore Loki’s Scepter in The Avengers. Knowing very little that it becomes the mind stone and is to be housed on Vision’s forehead.

Thor’s vision, the Infinity Stones, and the mind stone being in the middle of what seems to be a glove, explains his reason to turn Vision into life.

Vision, the final piece of Thanos’ Infinity Conquest

After the Avengers disbanded(like the Beatles), Vision and Wanda, went rogue after the events of the Civil War (we can see this take place in the comic’s continuation through Infinity War Prelude #1).

With Thanos’ threat on the whole universe imminent, the mind stone alerts Vision of the dangers ahead. The Avengers would need to stop the purple alien from collecting the singularities and avoid a universal crisis. But… They failed.

Vision’s head is cratered, Wanda is dusted, a gauntlet is jeweled with magnificent power and Thanos uses it to reduce the universe and its resources to half.

WandaVision

The Avengers reverses what Thanos has accomplished five years ago. Wanda comes back and returns to Wakanda to look for Vision. She finds out that the synthezoid was taken to S.W.O.R.D. She breaks into their headquarters and sees a lifeless Vision, without a soul, and is unfelt.

Wanda is emotionally broken and flies to Westview. Out of her magic and yearning, she holds Westview captive. She then creates an image of Vision and plays out a supposed life with two kids.

Towards the end of the series, S.W.O.R.D. reanimates Vision’s physical remains and turns it into an emotionless tool to become a weapon – White Vision(reference West Coast Avengers #42-#45). However, Wanda’s Vision was able to unlock the memory data of the weapon. This results in him speeding away from Westview.

What will we expect in the Vision Quest spinoff

What then shall we expect in the new spinoff?

Vision hasn’t appeared in the MCU for a while and there are still big possibilities that his arc continues on. While most of WandaVision‘s loose threads tie up in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Vision remains to be seen again.

No news or further rumors confirms White Vision’s next MCU appearance, but while WandaVision depicts most of the beginning of the “Vision Quest” storyline, there are other possibilities for what Vision Quest could be about, including plots that involve Ironheart, Wonder Man, and the founding of the West Coast Avengers.

Presumably, this might be where the spinoff picks up and explores just how Vision is able to regain his sense of humanity and self. While this is a

fun mind-boggle, we might even see the White Vision appear in Armor Wars.

Certainly, we are not done with Vision. There is still more that we need to see develop with this character. What do you guys think? What do you think happened to him and what other MCU projects might he appear in? Let’s discuss.
