CoD: Modern Warfare 4 Reveals Early Access, Pre-Order Bonuses and Carry-Over Rules

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is getting closer, and Activision is filling in more details about what players can expect before launch. Early campaign access, platform-specific bonuses and carry-over rules are all shaping how the release will work. Some rewards will follow players from Black Ops 7, while most progression will start fresh. That combination puts the game among the top upcoming video game releases for players watching this year’s biggest gaming trends.

Campaign early access comes next

Players have already had a chance to try Modern Warfare 4 through its beta weekends, but the next playable period begins on October 16. Anyone who digitally pre-orders the game can access the campaign one week before the full release on October 23.

Early access applies to Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Xbox on PC, Steam, Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2. Only the campaign will be available during that period, so multiplayer and DMZ players will need to wait until the wider launch.

Physical pre-orders do not qualify because discs will not arrive until release day. Standard and Vault Edition digital purchases are both eligible, while Warzone integration will come later with Season 1.

Xbox gets green bonus

Digital pre-orders also include the Inner Circuit M4 Weapon Blueprint at launch. Xbox Series X|S players get a translucent OG Green version inspired by classic Xbox hardware and created to celebrate the brand’s 25th anniversary.

Other supported platforms receive the same blueprint with a mil-spec appearance. Performance does not change between versions, since both use identical attachments and gameplay characteristics.

Platform differences only affect how the weapon looks. Someone playing on PC, for example, will see the mil-spec version even when facing an Xbox Series X|S player using the anniversary treatment.

The blueprint includes five attachments focused on mobility, handling and accuracy at close and mid-range. Choices such as the 11.5-inch Shortline Barrel and ZLR ASP50 Stock make it particularly suited to aggressive movement or pairing with a sniper.

Progress mostly resets

Most Black Ops 7 content will not carry into Modern Warfare 4. Weapons, progression, camos, blueprints and operators generally remain behind when players move to the new title.

Exceptions include the Hunter Killer operator and two universal camos offered to Black Ops 7 players who pre-ordered Modern Warfare 4. Unspent 2XP tokens also carry forward, making them potentially useful when starting the new progression system.

COD Points transfer as well, provided players remain on the same platform. Because the currency is tied to the storefront where it was purchased, balances cannot simply move between different platform stores.

Warzone works differently. Older weapons, blueprints, camos and operators are traditionally retained there, keeping previous unlocks relevant even as game development shifts toward the next annual release.

Wider launch setup

Infinity Ward leads game development on Modern Warfare 4, with Beenox supporting the PC version and Digital Legends working on the native Nintendo Switch 2 release. Additional Activision studios are also contributing, reflecting the scale of modern gaming industry innovations and large franchise production.

Xbox Play Anywhere support gives Xbox players another option, although the game will not join Game Pass at launch. Eligible previous CoD owners can also receive a 10% Vault Edition pre-order discount on Xbox through launch day.

With early access, platform-specific rewards and limited progression carry-over now explained, the release picture is much clearer. Among the top upcoming video game releases, Modern Warfare 4 is giving gaming fans plenty to consider before choosing where and how they want to play.
