Epic Games Store Makes Two Acclaimed PC Games Free to Keep for a Limited Time

Epic Games Store has refreshed its weekly freebies with two very different adventures that players can keep permanently. Beacon Pines and We Were Here Together are free to claim until August 13, giving PC players nearly $33 worth of gaming content at no cost.

The pair replaces OTXO and Sol Cesto, which were available during the previous weekly promotion. It also gives players something new to try while waiting for the top upcoming video game releases arriving later this year.

Two games to keep

Beacon Pines normally costs $19.99, while We Were Here Together is priced at $12.99, bringing their combined regular value to $32.98. Neither requires a subscription, although players need a free Epic Games account to claim them.

Both titles remain permanently attached to the account after checkout, so there is no requirement to download them before the promotion ends. This makes the giveaway an easy addition for players keeping track of the latest game releases without wanting to spend anything.

Beacon Pines, released in September 2022, is a single-player narrative mystery developed by Hiding Spot Games. Players follow a young deer named Luka as he and his friends investigate strange events surrounding their small town.

Its defining mechanic involves collecting charms containing individual words. Players insert these words at important moments to change the story, while an interactive tree called The Chronicle records different paths and allows earlier decisions to be revisited. The unusual approach to game development helped the title earn an 81 OpenCritic average and overwhelmingly positive Steam reviews.

Bring a friend

We Were Here Together takes a completely different approach. Released in October 2019 by Dutch studio Total Mayhem Games, the third We Were Here entry sends two explorers from an Antarctic base camp on a rescue mission after they spot a distress flare.

Things quickly go wrong, leaving the pair separated around the mysterious Castle Rock. Each player sees different clues, making accurate communication through their walkie-talkies essential to solving the puzzles.

There is no single-player mode or AI companion, meaning both players must own separate copies. Cross-play helps, however, as partners can play across supported platforms rather than both relying on Epic. The game also received a Legacy Update in October 2025 that improved its visuals, performance and interface, reflecting broader gaming trends around continued support for older releases.

Interestingly, this is not its first Epic giveaway. We Were Here Together was briefly free for 24 hours on December 26, 2025, but this marks its first standard seven-day giveaway.

Another freebie follows

Players have until August 13 at 11 AM ET to claim both games. Anyone browsing the latest game releases can simply complete Epic’s free checkout now and install them whenever they want. Epic has already confirmed what comes next. Caravan SandWitch, normally priced at $24.99, becomes free from August 13 through August 20.

The exploration adventure offers another option between the top upcoming video game releases, with players exploring the planet Cigalo in a customizable van while searching for the protagonist’s missing sister.
