Five Nights at Freddy’s Comes to Fortnite With Animatronic Bosses

Crossovers have become a familiar part of Fortnite, bringing characters from different corners of entertainment into its constantly changing world. Horror is getting another turn this October as one of gaming’s most recognizable franchises joins the battle royale.

Years of speculation are finally over, with Epic Games confirming that Five Nights at Freddy’s will arrive as part of Fortnitemares 2026. Players will not have to wait long either, as the collaboration begins on October 1.

Freddy’s arrives

Five Nights at Freddy’s will make its Fortnite debut alongside the wider Fortnitemares update on October 1. Epic announced the crossover with a trailer declaring that the “Fazbear Band has taken over Battle Royale” and challenging players to survive the night. Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria will appear as a location, bringing one of the horror series’ best-known settings into Fortnite.

Animatronic animal bosses are also confirmed, meaning the collaboration goes beyond simply adding characters to the Item Shop. An exact launch time for the FNAF content has not been announced. Still, the crossover adds another major name to the growing list of entertainment franchises appearing in Fortnite.

Familiar animatronics return

Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy are all featured in the crossover, with the trailer providing a look at cosmetics inspired by the original animatronics. Chica’s Cupcake can also be spotted alongside Freddy and Bonnie Back Blings. Leaker HYPEX says the character skins are reactive and come with withered, battle-damaged alternatives.

Footage of Freddy appears to support the reactive claim, showing his face moving and coming apart in a way reminiscent of the series’ jumpscares. Those additions give fans several ways to represent the horror franchise while playing. They also continue a wider gaming trend of collaborations extending beyond basic character skins through themed locations and gameplay elements.

Survive the night

Epic’s trailer places particular emphasis on surviving encounters with the animatronics at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. Some footage even appears to show an animatronic being controlled while hunting other players. HYPEX suggests players will be able to transform into FNAF bosses and chase opponents.

However, Epic has not confirmed a dedicated Five Nights at Freddy’s mode, so those scenes could instead represent activities incorporated into Battle Royale during Fortnitemares. That distinction remains important until more details arrive. What is confirmed is that players will face animatronic bosses, giving the crossover a stronger gameplay component than a purely cosmetic event.

Teased weeks earlier

Signs of the collaboration had actually appeared before the announcement. Back in August, players discovered a building on the Fortnite Override map resembling Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, complete with a stage similar to the animatronics’ performance area. Fortnite lead producer Colin Friday also followed the official FNAF account on X, adding to speculation at the time. Neither clue proved anything then, but the subsequent announcement gives those earlier discoveries new context.

Fortnitemares now brings together two properties built around very different forms of interactive entertainment. With Five Nights at Freddy’s remaining a major horror name, its Fortnite arrival also reflects how game development and gaming trends increasingly intersect with large crossover events.
