October 2026 Could Be One of the Year’s Busiest Months for New Games

October is shaping up to be another packed month for players, with major franchises sharing the calendar with some unusual newcomers. Horror, racing, shooters, RPGs and survival adventures are all competing for attention across consoles and PC.

Several of the top upcoming video game releases also experiment with familiar formulas, making gaming industry innovations part of the story beyond the biggest names. Anyone looking for fresh entertainment will have plenty to choose from before November arrives.

Xbox gets Gears

Xbox players have a major first-party release waiting early in the month with Gears of War: E-Day. Set 14 years before the original game, the campaign follows Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago as the Locust Horde erupts from underground during Emergence Day, while multiplayer includes Horde Siege and Versus PvP.

Game Pass fills out the following weeks with several smaller releases too. Echo Weaver brings its time-loop Metroidvania concept, while Deep Dish Dungeon combines exploration, crafting, cooking and co-op dungeon crawling.

Not long after, Valor Mortis delivers first-person Soulslike combat from the team behind Ghostrunner. Players become William, a resurrected soldier from Napoleon’s Grande Armée who gains mysterious powers while fighting through a plague-stricken Europe.

PS5 stays busy

PlayStation’s lineup leans heavily into action and horror. End of Abyss arrives during the opening days, sending combat technician Cel into an abandoned underground facility filled with monstrous creatures, with Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve following shortly after.

Later releases become considerably darker. Silver Pines mixes survival horror with Metroidvania exploration, while Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival turns the famous horror series into a first-person survival experience built around the Genesis Configuration.

Near the end of the month comes Phantom Blade Zero. Soul has only 66 days left to live, with its Wuxia-inspired combat and Unreal Engine 5 presentation offering another example of gaming industry innovations shaping modern action games.

Switch gets variety

Switch 2 owners have a particularly crowded month ahead. Octopath Traveler I & II kick things off as a bundle, while Hell is Us and Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen follow the next week.

Around the middle of the month, The Witch’s Bakery arrives before Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse, the rhythm-based roguelike Ratatan, Bluey’s Happy Snaps and It Takes Two. Horror fans then get Switch 2 versions of Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition.

Later in the month, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort heads to Wuhu Island with 12 motion-controlled sports. Minecraft Switch 2 Edition follows during the final week, giving Nintendo players a mix stretching from RPGs and horror to family-friendly adventures.

Plenty to play

The wider release schedule shows how much variety modern gaming can offer within a single month. Familiar genres are being mixed with different combat systems, co-op ideas and visual styles, while game development continues to find new ways to reshape concepts players already recognise.
