2022 So Far: PS5, Xbox, Switch, Streaming Services, and NFTs Analysis
Even though we’re only at the beginning of 2022, there has already been an incredible amount of activity. Let’s take a look at PS5, Xbox, the streaming service rivalry, and the creators who are standing up against NFTs.
PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Switch
The Playstation 5 will outsell the Xbox Series this 2022, according to Ampere. The video game market analyst’s findings were concluded from a recent study. The report also states that the PS5 will have 18 million consumers as opposed to the Xbox’s 9 million. Results are higher from last year, which Ampere attributes to more readily available consoles this year.
According to these estimates, the Nintendo Switch will also continue to be the most popular gaming system; with 21 million units worldwide sales. The Big N system is on pace to surpass the Wii’s previous sales record of 6.3 million units.

Streaming Wars
In addition to organizing the release dates of films in theaters, on DVD, Blu-ray, and on streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, the film industry is poised to undergo a dramatic shift as a result of the large entrance of streaming companies.

- In comparison to other streaming video services, Netflix has the most users by far. It’s a great way to watch movies and TV series without ads interruption. Additionally, the company’s investments in both original and licensed content ensure that there’s always something to watch.
- To make things even more convenient, practically every film and television show has an option to stream its original version or with subtitles or dubbing. It’s hard to argue with Netflix’s position as the top streaming option right now.
NFTs and the Crypto Trend
This year’s Game Developers Conference surveyed 2,700 developers on their thoughts on NFTs, and the results have been released. Moreover, this technique appears to be less than unanimous among the community.

70% of respondents were not interested, with 21% saying they were “somewhat interested” 7% saying they were “very interested” and only 1% saying they were actually creating them.
Cryptocurrencies have seen similar numbers. Take note that companies like Konami and Ubisoft have already started offensives against this trend, while Square Enix is looking at it as well. Many people believe that NFTs and cryptocurrencies have a high potential for fraud, while doubts remain about how they will be monetized and how they will affect the environment. The adoption of these technologies into our favorite games is now improbable for a variety of reasons.
