Remedy Entertainment has acquired the publishing rights for Alan Wake from Microsoft, the company announced in a press release today.
In the press release, the company wrote, “For its first half-year period of 2019, Remedy Entertainment Plc records approximately 2.5 million euros of royalties from previously released games as one-time income. The royalties are paid to Remedy during the second half-year period of 2019. In relation to this, the publishing rights of Alan Wake games are reverted to Remedy.”
The company has stated in the past that they’d be willing to jump back into Alan Wake. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz back in July of last year, CEO Tero Virtala said, “Considering our history… Alan Wake was really interesting but it was a collaboration with Microsoft. Due to certain reasons, it never got a sequel. Quantum Break, also, we put a lot of effort into creating the world, the characters, the stories, but still, it was Microsoft IP. They decided not to take it further. If we owned the IP, it’s fully in our hands to decide how we create it, how we develop, what are the creative decisions that we take? And then maybe one day in the future, if it proves to be successful, it’s again in our hands to decide what will be done. That was important for us.”
Whether or not the company decides to develop another Alan Wake title however remains unclear. We’ll keep you in the loop and publish an update if there’s any new development.
