Grav Jump is the gameplay mechanic in Starfield through which you are able to travel between planets and solar systems. There are some factors that you need to keep in mind before initiating this action. We are going to explain them in this article along with the complete guide on how to use and upgrade the Grav Jump in Starfield. Make sure to go through all of it in order to fully understand the system.
Starfield: How to Use Grav Jump

- For the first and the most important step, you will have to redirect the power from the other parts of your ship into the grav drive. You will be able to do this from the HUD at the bottom-left corner of the screen while you are piloting a ship.
- You are going to need at least a single power level in order to perform the Grav Jump. A greater power level is going to result in a quicker charge time.

- Next, head over to the desired planet from the starmap and set course for it. The planet of destination can be within the same or a different solar system.

- After the course is set, hold the jump option to begin your journey.

- When all the steps are done, it will trigger the Grav Jump. You will be able to see the timer countdown on the screen as well.
Grav Jump Pending Issue

- Sometimes you might come across a message stating “Grav Jump Pending” while you are initiating the jump. This means that you forgot to divert power into the grav drive.
- Provide the necessary power in order for your spaceship to take off successfully.
Factors affecting Grav Jump and How to Upgrade them
There are three factors that affect the efficiency of your Grav Jump. They are explained below.
Route

- Routes are the pathways through which you travel between the planets and the solar systems. A red line is going to indicate an unexplored route and you will not be able to perform a Grav Jump through such routes.
- You will need to execute smaller Grav Jumps to the closer planets in a linear manner in order to explore all the routes first. Once explored, the routes are going to turn white and only then will you be able to carry out the Grav Jump without a problem.
Jump Range

- Jump Range is the maximum distance that you can travel at once using the Grav Jump.

- Upgrade your grav drive from the ship modifier in order to get a longer Jump Range. Players with the ‘Spaced’ trait should invest in the Astrodynamics skill in order to get help in this department as well.
Fuel

- Every time the Grav Jump covers a route, your ship is going to consume a good amount of fuel.

- In order to conserve a greater amount of fuel capacity, you should upgrade the ship’s Tank.
