Black Desert Online is one of the biggest MMORPG game in the world, developed by Korean developer Pearl Abyss. The game is widely popular among Asian countries and has made its place in most MMORPG gamers’ hearts. The game has been well received by critics, currently holding a score of 75 on Metacritic and 8.6/10 in average user ratings on MMORPG.com.
This year at E3, Microsoft announced that Black Desert Online would be coming to the Xbox One as a console-exclusive. This would act as a great opportunity for Microsoft to spread its roots in the Asian gaming community. But the question here is why Pear Abyss decided to go with the Xbox One over PS4 even when the latter is more popular in the Asian markets?
The reason behind the decision to go with the Xbox One, as stated by Pearl Abyss’ COO James Heo, is simply because the developers are not that experienced with consoles, as their only game was completely PC-oriented. However, Microsoft played a great role by providing active support and assistance to them, which ultimately made all the difference.
Heo spoke with GamingBolt explaining their decision to go with the Xbox One. He stated that the team at Xbox has a great understanding of their game and their optimism and active support is everything Pearl Abyss needed. Since the company is less experienced with the console system, it is indeed a good opportunity to enter the console market, tying up with one of the biggest industrial giants in their initial stage.
When questioned about their plans for PS4, Heo revealed that Pearl Abyss currently has a timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft. Once the deal is over, they are sure to bring their flagship to other consoles as well. Heo clarifies by saying, “We know many fans have been waiting a long time for the console version of Black Desert Online and we’ll do our best to make it available for the users as soon as possible.”
Microsoft is working extensively on improving the Green-Experience and taking it many steps ahead. With the new Xbox One X being a major upgrade with impressive features, we could expect more from the tech giant in near future.
