Could Getting A PS5 Be Easier With The $52 Billion US Senate Funding?

Production has been down in many sectors due to the global scarcity of semiconductors. The United States Senate has recently approved a new bill that allocates $52 billion in funding to domestic semiconductor manufacturing.

The finance might potentially help alleviate the continuing scarcity of gaming hardware such as the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One X, and also PC hardware such as Nvidia’s 30 Series GPUs.

U.S. Innovation and Competition Act

The United States Innovation and Competition Act, received unexpected bipartisan backing in the Senate this week. The bill received 68 votes in favor and 32 votes against, easily passing the 60-vote baseline.

The bill includes $52 billion in funding for the semiconductor market alone, as well as a slew of other technology-related assets. Total funding for technological initiatives exceeds $200 billion.

Conversely, there is some opposition to the bill. Most of it is concerns squarely to China, which has made significant strides in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and robotics studies in recent years.

Additionally, some critics argue that the bill is too focused on great-power rivalry with China. Others, including Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, have asserted that investing billions of dollars in already massive semiconductor companies would be ineffective and unequal.

More PS5 and Xbox Series X Consoles?

What this implies for gamers expecting increased PS5 and Xbox Series X productivity in the near future is disappointing news. Though the US bill is quickly approved, increased supply is unlikely to occur for a while. Overall, it is a long-term endeavor, and the effect could be hard to predict even years down the road.
