Players will be disappointed to learn that Bandai Namco’s eagerly awaited game Digimon Survive has now been postponed even further. According to reports, the game has been pushed back from 2021 to 2022 by Bandai Namco and Toei Animation.
The Delay
Toei Animation recently published its financials and within that information, it also mentioned the delay of Digimon Survive. This is not the first time that the game had a delay. Just have a look at its timeline.
- Digimon Survive was first announced on July 21, 2018, in Japan for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The initial release date back then was in 2019.
- There were no updates about it for a year after its announcement and hence, fans thought it was not going to push through.
- But then, on April 22, 2019, game producer Habu Kazumasa too to his Twitter account to announce that they will still release the game.
- A release of new information about Digimon Survive came in the Summer of 2019. This included a dev diary, new details on the story, characters, and gameplay mechanics.
- Along with that, the game got a new 2020 release date.
- Next, on 23rd April 2020 Famitsu Magazine stated Digimon Survive will have a delay indefinitely.
- On August 2, 2020, Toei Animation Japan on its official schedule still listed the game for 2020 but its Europe edition slated it for January 2021 release.
- Then Habu Kazumasa tweeted that the game’s development process and the schedule were being reviewed on October 8, 2020.
- Finally, a release of an official statement on October 15, 2020, announcing a 2021 delay.
After so many dramatic turns and a solid 2-year delay, it will now again get a delay to 2022. It seems like the wait for this game isn’t going to end anytime soon!
About Digimon Survive
- Digimon Survive is an upcoming survival strategy role-playing video game developed by Witchcraft and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows.
- Digimon Survive is going to be a tactical JRPG featuring choices that matter and can lead to character deaths. It would be interesting to see that how player choices will influence the direction of the story, including Digimon’s digivolution process.
- According to what we know, multiple playthroughs can result in different paths and different digivolutions. In most RPG games choices do matter but ultimately lead to similar situations and the same destination.
- So, it could be even more thrilling for players if their choices can directly kill their characters (not just fighting bad). The game is split into multiple types of gameplays, such as “Drama Parts”, “Search Action”, “Free Action”, and “Free Battle”.
