Players in Europe have been facing a peculiar issue with the newly released Far Cry 6 on their PlayStation consoles. Players with the PS4 version of the game have been unable to upgrade to the PS5 version of the game.
This issue is attributed to the fact that Ubisoft has released region-locked versions of Far Cry 6. This means that PSN accounts in particular areas with PS4 versions of the game will not be able to upgrade to the PS5 version. This is because this upgrade will be done in the player’s region. Additionally, the game will be region-locked to another region. Players in the UK have reportedly received Russian versions of Far Cry 6.
“The team is aware of reports that some players are unable to upgrade their PlayStation 4 version of Far Cry 6 to the PlayStation 5 version. We are investigating the issue and will provide an update ASAP.”
– Ubisoft
A particular player on Twitter, sjpearson85 demonstrated that he could upgrade his game to a PS5 version when he used a Russian PSN account, but then lost all progress and additional DLC that he may have linked to his original account, which was registered in the UK.

This is not the first time something like this has happened with Ubisoft either. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion were both released at the end of the previous year, faced the same issue where players were unable to upgrade their games to the PS5 versions. Players had to wait two weeks for the issue to be resolved with those two games. We will have to wait and see what happens this time.
If you are unable to upgrade your version of Far Cry 6 to the PS5 version, you might have to wait for a bit before you are able to do so.
