BY JC Paredes 2 years AGO 2 MIN READ

Memorial Day weekend took a tragic turn at Lake Anna in Virginia after a father and son drowned in a heartbreaking incident.

What happened?

On Saturday, May 25th, emergency crews in Louisa County rushed to the scene after reports of a person in trouble near Carrs Bridge Road. A 14-year-old male was struggling in the water. His father, a 42-year-old visiting from out of town, jumped in to save him.

Sadly, witnesses reported seeing both the father and son disappear from sight shortly after. A massive search swung into action with everyone from the Sheriff’s Office to the local fire department and dive teams on the scene. The search ended with the recovery of both the father and son’s bodies.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office is currently not releasing the victims’ names yet, respecting the family’s privacy during this unfortunate time. They also confirmed there’s no sign of foul play.

LCSO and other emergency crews responded to Lake Anna in the area of Carrs Bridge Rd at approximately 1:10 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2024, for a reported child drowning. While en route deputies were advised that the father of the child had attempted to locate/rescue his son.

It was reported that witnesses observed the father struggling, just before losing sight of him as well. Several people went into the water in an attempt to locate them but were unsuccessful.

Safety Awareness

Tragic water incidents happen more times than we know. We’re talking about individuals attempting rescues and unfortunately becoming victims themselves. One example is in California beach incident back in 2019. A father jumped in to save his children from strong rip currents but tragically drowned himself. A similar story unfolded in the Mississippi River in 2022 when a teenager dove in to rescue his two younger sisters struggling in the water after slipping but became caught in the struggle himself.

Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time
