Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 is here, bringing players to an all-new location. With major chapter updates, Epic always delivers a lot of new content. Here we’ll see the introduction of new gameplay mechanics, characters, and even its first forays into Unreal Engine 5.1
Characters
A new season means a new Battle Pass, bringing many of the game’s characters and other pop culture ones to life. This season’s Battle Pass will have The Witcher’s Geralt of Rivia. I’ve never imagined a world where Ciri would teleport Geralt into Fortnite, but here we are. You’ll also be able to get a Doom Slayer skin from the Doom video game franchise.

Other than that, the Hulk will make its way to the Outfit store to join the large Marvel collection Fortnite has built up. Epic Games also promises that Deku from My Hero Academia will be one of the collaborations to release in the coming months.
New Gameplay Mechanics
A new gameplay mechanics introduced into this new Chapter is Reality Augments. At the start of the game, players will be given a choice among two random boons, influencing how they play. From there, they will earn other augments the longer they survive. There are 22 augments at the moment, and Epic plans on unlocking more throughout the chapter. Some popular ones include:
- Aerialist: Gives you Glider redeploy for the match’s entirety
- Light fingers: Reload faster with light ammo
- Supercharged: Your vehicles do not consume fuel, and they have higher health
New weapons are also in the game. A featured one is an Ex-caliber rifle. It is a semi-automatic gun that fires a detonating ballistic blade at enemies.
Visual Upgrades
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 1 introduces a lot of fancy visual upgrades for players. They’re preparing the game for the next gen, and they are doing it by introducing Unreal Engine 5.1 features. The goal is to add more detail to the game. Here are some of the features now accessible through consoles, PC, and cloud gaming:
- Temporal Super Resolution (TSR): Prioritizes visual clarity while maintaining high framerates
- Nanite: Improved architectural geometry
- Virtual Shadow maps: Improved detail on shadows
- Lumen: High-quality gloss and ray-traced reflections (including water)
Players with higher-end machines may have noticed these new visual upgrades right away. However, these may not necessarily be noticeable to those playing with the minimum requirements.
Other Updates
A new group called The Ageless is now ruling the new island. The map introduces many POIs to visit, such as Anvil Square, Frenzy Fields, and Brutal Bastion. Some locations have a more medieval European style mixed with the new technology Fortnite is known for delivering.
There is also a new vehicle in the form of the dirt bike, the Trail Thrasher. Epic Games teased The Hulk riding one of these vehicles in style.
Aside from that, the hurdle is a new movement maneuver for players. It allows them to hurdle over obstacles to help them navigate the battlefield better.
