Got stuck in The Crater and need to find a new region? Worry no more because you can find all answers to your questions here! Unlocking new and hidden regions in God of War: Ragnarok takes you to new places and allows you to have more rewards and Quests. If you plan to explore a new one, here’s how to reach The Sinkholes in Vanaheim. But first, we’ll have to complete the Return of the River Favor!
In Vanaheim: The Sinkholes
The Sinkholes can be found near The Crater region in Vanaheim. Before you can reach the area, make sure you completed the Scent of Survival Favor first. To give you a refresher, that’s the side quest where you trail Helka and she will lead you to where Birgir is.
- When you arrive at The Crater, make your way to The Jungle in Vanaheim. Once you arrive a Favor appears, and you have to complete this if you want to reach The Sinkholes.
A path with the Ogres
- On your way to The Jungle, you know you’re on the right track when you find large footprints on the ground. The large footprints already indicate that you’re in The Jungle area,
- This is also the area where you’ll run across ogres hurling boulders over at Kratos. You cannot attack them from a distance since they are possessed by Nokkens, so come back here later. You’ll have to access the area anyway when you start A Stag for All Seasons Favor in God of War: Ragnarok.
Find another path to The Jungle
- Get down from the ledge and continue straight until you find a red chest. You can also see an area covered by poisonous mist. Let Kratos’ Leviathan Axe do the work, and freeze the plant that emits the mist in the area.
- Once the mist plant is frozen, you may head forward. Recall your Axe though since you’ll need it to clear the enemies blocking the way!
How to trigger
- Defeat all the enemies and climb up the wall behind them. The Favor automatically begins when you get near the dam. It would be best to clear the area of enemies before you progress.
The Return of the River Favor
Complete The Return of the River Favor to unlock The Sinkholes in Vanaheim. Shall we start?
Fight Seidr
- After receiving The Return of the River Favor, do climb up the ledge. When you reach the top, look at your side and you’ll see bramble limiting your access to a lift.
- Take out one of the Sigil Arrows and use it on the bramble. Afterward, Kratos should use his Blades of Chaos to light it up.
- Once it lights up, you can use the lift to bring you to the top of the dam. Do keep in mind that Seidr would welcome you when you reach the top. Kratos should defeat the enemies ahead to progress in this Favor.
The Draupnir Spear
- In the successful battle against Seidr and other enemies, look to your right and see a wall crack. You can place your Draupnir Spear into the crack and detonate it. The explosion will make a hole in the wall big enough for Kratos and his companion to squeeze through.
Another Favor: What Lies Below
- Once done defeating these enemies, you may notice a gap to pass through. Getting to this area automatically unlocks another Favor called What Lies Below. This would require you to take down two Dreki in the lair ahead. Don’t worry though, you can save that quest for later!
Defeat enemies
- Nobody said quests in God of War: Ragnarok are going to be easy, so prepare to fight some more enemies in this new area! Taking them head-on would be a waste of time, though, since they are possessed by a Nokken.
- Take a look at the wall covered in the bramble. The Nokken is camping out here, so have Kratos throw his Leviathan Axe at it to get it down. Once the Nokken is taken care of, you can easily clear the area of the enemies!
Flood The Crater
- You need to keep the wheel turning for this one. Make sure to clear out the bramble growing on the wall to lift up the gates.
- Fire a couple of Sigil Arrows at the bramble and make sure they’re connected to each other. Then, set it on fire using Kratos’ Blades of Chaos.
- From there, you can start turning the wheel and letting water flow from the dam down to the rivers.
- Going back down the dam automatically completes this Favor! You can now freely travel across The Sinkholes region in Vanaheim using your boat.
