Elden Ring: Astel Guide, How to Defeat
In the world of Elden Ring, there are plenty of enemies to defeat for powerful loot. However, some of these world bosses are quite tough to fight since they’re literally out of this world. Astel, Naturalborn of the Void is an otherworldly boss in Elden Ring. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to defeat Astel.
What and who is Astel in Elden Ring?
According to the official description of this creature, Astel comes from the stars. Moreover, Astel is behind the destruction and ultimate ruin of the Eternal Cities.

Throughout the whole time Astel wreaked havoc on the Eternal Cities, the creature stole from them their sky. However, Astel’s motivation for doing so is unclear.
Astel is an optional boss in Elden Ring. However, players have to defeat it if they want to complete Ranni’s questline and unlock her ending in the game.
Where to find Astel in Elden Ring
To find and fight against Astel, players should head over to the Ainsel River located underground. Once there, go past the Lake of Rot until you find the site of grace in the Grand Cloister.
Afterward, search the side of a waterfall until you find a coffin. From there, you can step into the coffin which will go down and bring you to where Astel awaits you. Fair warning that this boss battle is more challenging compared to other boss battles.
How to defeat Astel, Naturalborn of the Void
Astel immediately attacks you the moment you step into the area where the battle takes place. Keep your eyes peeled for Astel firing a laser on the other side of the arena where it stands.

Types of attacks
Most of Astel’s attacks depend on gravity which can one-shot you immediately if you’re not careful. Additionally, one of Astel’s attacks can grab you and slam your character down on the ground. Once you hit the ground, it can either be enough to kill your character or nearly drain your health bar.

On the other hand, Astel also makes use of its tail and pincers to inflict physical damage. If you’re unfortunate enough to get trapped in its pincers, its attack is enough to kill a player especially if you have low health.

But if it is not attacking you in close range, Astel can also attack you from a distance. Getting hit by its long-range attacks also cause a substantial amount of damage. Astel also depends on AoE DMG to quickly finish you off.
Use the right weapon when facing Astel
It’s not recommended for players to use long-ranged weapons in this particular boss battle. Although Astel does keep a distance from players while it initiates attacks, its mobility can be annoying to deal with. Therefore, the best weapon to use when facing Astel is Magic.

If you have a high intelligence build, this can help clear this boss fight easier. But if you want to use a melee weapon, we recommend using The Sword of Night and Flame. This is a legendary weapon that can be used as both a melee and ranged weapon with one of its special attacks.
Summon the right Spirit Ash once the battle starts
Astel is one of the most difficult boss fights in Elden Ring. With that, we highly advise players to summon a Spirit Ash. If you summon a Spirit Ash at the start of the battle, it can be a gamechanger in your battle against this creature. For this boss fight, the best Spirits to summon are Latenna the Albinauric or the Mimic Tear Spirit Ash.
But aside from helping deal additional damage to Astel, these Summons also serve as a distraction for the boss. While Astel is busy trying to fight off your Summon, you can get in some powerful hits. However, be careful not to get hit by its charged attacks. If it starts charging up an attack, immediately put some distance between you and the creature to avoid getting damaged.
Rewards for defeating Astel

Players get 80,000 Runes and Remembrance of the Naturalborn. If you don’t want to use this special item, you can sell this Remembrance for 30,000 Runes. However, you can also duplicate the Remembrance of the Naturalborn at a Walking Mausoleum. By doing so, you can trade both Remembrances for the unique powers of Astel: Bastard’s Stars and the Waves of Darkness. Trade these items with Enia in the Roundtable Hold.

Moreover, defeating Astel lets players progress through Ranni’s questline.
