Honkai Star Rail is another successful game from the miHoYo. The game has been doing well globally and offers various characters categorized differently compared to other games. The characters have different paths to choose which can also affect the role they play in the team composition. It can get a bit complicated, but don’t worry we have got you. This guide classifies the support characters in Honkai Star Rail and further ranks them based on their utility in the team.
Support Characters in Honkai Star Rail
Honkai Star Rail has a much more sophisticated classification of the heroes which is different compared to other games. Therefore, there is no category of Support in the game. Although, to make it simple for everyone we have classified the already existing in-game categories of Abundance, Harmony, Preservation, and Nihility under Supports. Since these characters excel at providing buffs, healing, and utility to the team or applying debuffs to the enemy team they fall under the category of standard supports.
Honkai Star Rail: Best Support Characters Ranked
#1. Bailu
- Path: The Abundance
- Element: Lightning
- Star: 5*
- Tier: S
Reason: Although Bailu is a 5* character and might be hard to draw, well luck be in your favor because this character can make a major difference. Bailu is packed with healing not just for one, but multiple allies. In addition, she can revive the fallen allies. Is there anything that she is not good at? No, and that’s why she is the best support to have right now.
#2. Bronya
- Path: Harmony
- Element: Wind
- Star: 5*
- Tier: S
Reason: Bronya ranks 2nd on our list of the best support characters in Honkai Star Rail for this meta. She can nullify all the debuffs and in addition, grant you another move. If that’s not enough, Bronya can increase the crit damage and attack damage for the whole team. If you can draw her, we recommend surely having her on the team.
#3. Tingyun
- Path: Harmony
- Element: Lightning
- Star: 4*
- Tier: S
Reason: One reason why Tingyun makes it on the 3rd rank is because of how well she pairs in most of the team compositions. In addition, she does the best if you have a high DPS in your team as she excels at buffing one’s attack damage. Also, Tingyun’s ultimate restores the energy of an ally and grants them additional damage.
#4. Trailblazer
- Path: The Preservation
- Element: Fire
- Star: 5*
- Tier: S
Reason: People will be surprised to see this character on the list. Although, the durability of this character in a team fight and the ability to reciprocate with attacks makes him stand 4th on our list. He provides enough utility in a team by tanking out and blocking the damage. Furthermore, he can bait out heavy damage abilities of the enemies and can be an excellent choice against elites that are weak against fire elements.
#5. Welt
- Path: Harmony
- Element: Imaginary
- Star: 5*
- Tier: S
Reason: Welt is ranked 5th on our list but still falls under the category of S-ranked characters. He has one of the best abilities in the game as he can slow the attacks on the enemy which can result in more turns for your character. This ability can be exploited to change the outcome of the whole fight.
#6. Natasha
- Path: The Abundance
- Element: Physical
- Star: 4*
- Tier: A
Reason: Bailu and Natasha are the best healers in the game. This makes it necessary to have one of them in long fights. Since Bailu is a 5* character and is hard to find, Natasha can fill the void for her. Her skills are limited to healing just one ally, although her ultimate heals everyone on the team. Hence, we feel Natasha should be ranked 6th and right after all the S-tier characters.
#7. Pela
- Path: The Nihility
- Element: Ice
- Star: 4*
- Tier: A
Reason: Pela excels in situations where enemies are weak to the Ice element. Her kit mostly consists of debuffs to enemies and can help create an opening for your main damage dealer. In addition, her skills restore her energy so which can be quite useful in tricky situations.
#8. March 7th
- Path: The Preservation
- Element: Ice
- Star: 4*
- Tier: A
Reason: March 7th ranks 8th on our list, although the rank seems a bit low for her it’s just because of how balanced all the characters are in this meta. March 7th’s biggest strength is that she can shield an ally and attack the enemy when the shielded ally is attacked. This makes her both an offensive and defensive support. She is a well-rounded support and with an ultimate that freezes all the enemies, she can come in handy.
#9. Asta
- Path: Harmony
- Element: Fire
- Star: 4*
- Tier: B
Reason: Asta is a decent support and can be used if you have allies with high attack speed. Her ultimate buffs the attack speed of her allies and you might end up having another turn. She can be a great pick against enemies that are prone to fire elements.
#10. Sampo
- Path: The Nihility
- Element: Wind
- Star: 4*
- Tier: B
Reason: Sampo is more of an offensive support and hence ranks last on our list. He excels at slowing enemies but the only drawback is that you can miss. Hence, we recommend using this character only if you understand his kit completely.

As of now, we feel all the heroes mentioned are viable, the only thing that sets them apart is their utility around all the quests, story mode, and against the bosses. Although, the thing that matters the most is the correct team combination. Furthermore, with a correct team compo, you can make a 4* character work better than a 5* in a bad team combination.
