Honkai: Star Rail – What are Warps? ‘Wish’ system Explained

Honkai Star Rail - What are Warps - Wish system Explained

Another day, another gacha game for us to enjoy! HoYoverse has just released Honkai: Star Rail and already, we’re loving the game. There are tons of new features introduced, as well as a mix of old and new characters welcoming us aboard the Star Rail Express. One of the features in Honkai: Star Rail is called Warps, and it is similar to the Wish system in HoYoverse’s other hit gacha game, Genshin Impact. If you don’t know how Warps and the “Wish” system in Star Rail works, then keep reading to learn all about it!

Warps and ‘Wish’ system in Honkai: Star Rail explained

Similar to other HoYoverse titles, you need to spend in-game currency in order to obtain new characters and weapons in Honkai: Star Rail. The game’s gacha system includes two types of special tickets. These are called the Star Rail Passes and Star Rail Special Passes.

You need to top up your account with the number of Oneiric Shards needed to make a pull if you want to get these Passes. On the other hand, you can always save up enough of the in-game currency by completing missions and participating in events. It will take longer, but you’ll get to save your real-life money in the long run.

  • Warps in Honkai: Star Rail cost 1 Star Rail Pass or Special Pass for players to roll once.  Like Primogems, you can exchange 160 Stellar Jades to obtain one of the two Passes. Players also have the option to pull on Warps 10 times for 1600 Stellar Jades.
  • Pulling 10 times on any Warp guarantees you a four-star light cone or character.

  • If you’re only starting in Honkai: Star Rail, you can pull from four Warps. These are the Beginner, Standard, Character Oriented, and Light Cone Oriented Warp.
  • Both the limited and permanent character Warps in Star Rail features a 0.6% chance of receiving a five-star character. As for the light cone Warps in the game, there is a 0.8% chance of receiving a five-star weapon.

Different kinds of Warps in Star Rail

  • The Beginner Warp in Star Rail has a limit of 50 pulls on each account. It also has a 20% discount for the number of Star Rail Passes you need to pull from this banner. If you’ve played Genshin Impact, then this is similar to the Beginner Banner where Travelers can obtain a guaranteed 4-star Noelle.

  • As for the Standard Warp, you can get characters and light cones that are not part of the featured banners. Some of the five-star characters you can get from the Standard Warp are Bronya, Yanqing, Himeko, and Welt. The same goes for light cones, or weapons, in Honkai: Star Rail.
  • Finally, there are two types of limited-time Warps in Star Rail: Character Oriented and Light Cone Oriented. These Warps feature the promotional five-star characters and light cones for the current patch in Honkai: Star Rail.

HoYoverse has also adopted the phases for each version as we have in Genshin Impact. There will be two phases per patch and once the first phase ends, a new five-star character or weapon can be obtainable from the limited-time Warps in Star Rail.

Does Honkai: Star Rail’s Warps feature a Pity system?

Given that it is a gacha game, it’s expected that Star Rail has a Pity system, much like in Genshin Impact. Here is a brief overview of how the gacha system works in HoYoverse’s newest title.

  • The pity for character Warps in HSR is at 90 draws. If you reach 90 draws, you are guaranteed a five-star item. This means that if you haven’t received a five-star character on your 89th pull, your next pull is already guaranteed.
  • As for weapons or light cone Warps, the pity is at your 80th draw. Players who haven’t received any five-star light cones after 79 pulls will be guaranteed their next one.
  • Your pity counter automatically resets as soon as you get a five-star character or light cone. Each Warp has different pity counters, so be sure to spend your Passes and Stellar Jades wisely!
  • Honkai: Star Rail also carries over your pity into the next banner. If you weren’t able to get any five-star character or light cone after the first phase ends, you can build up on it again when the second phase starts.

Stellar Warp allows you to choose your preferred five-star character

  • Honkai: Star Rail’s Warps have one distinguishing feature from Genshin Impact. If a player reaches 300 rolls in the Stellar Warp, they can choose any of the following five-star characters:
    • Bailu
    • Bronya
    • Clara
    • Gepard
    • Himeko
    • Welt
    • Yangqing
  • According to Reddit discussions, Honkai: Star Rail also features a soft pity system. By your 75th pull in the permanent and limited-time character Warps, your chances of getting a five-star character are increased.
  • For the light cone Warps, the soft pity is believed to be at 65. The Beginner Warp does not feature soft pity as it is limited to 50 pulls only.
