Ever since it was first announced, gamers and super fans of Horizon Forbidden West cannot wait for the Burning Shores DLC to come out. Aside from the stunning graphics, another thing we should be excited for in the DLC is a new machine we can use to get around. In this article, we will explain the new mount feature in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC. We’re also going to fill you in on everything you can expect from the DLC once it officially launches next week.

What is Burning Shores DLC?

Horizon Forbidden West gets its first DLC campaign with Burning Shores. As we play through this expansion, we get to take Aloy on a wild ride as she explores the ruins of Los Angeles. Of course, ruins are home to some sinister threats that loom in every corner.

Aside from new machines, there are also new mysteries for Aloy to solve in the Burning Shores DLC. The Waterwing is a new mountable machine in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores DLC. Once Aloy is able to ride it, she can take either to the skies or under the waters to explore more of the post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. This is made possible because the new mount in Burning Shores as the ability to fly in the air and dive in the water.

Of course, that’s not the only thing the Waterwing mount can do. Here are some of the other stuff you can do when mounting a Waterwing:

  • Explore more of the volcanic archipelago that is Los Angeles. Following the apocalypse, Los Angeles has turned into an archipelago plagued by volcanic eruptions.
  • Since Aloy can’t possibly travel on foot the whole time, the Waterwing mount is a great mode of transportation. You can fly over the islands while riding your trusty Waterwing. On the other hand, Aloy can also dive in the water to discover more of the area.

  • The Waterwing also protects Aloy from harm. If you run into danger in Burning Shores, the new mount in Horizon Forbidden West is reliable. You can utilize its attacks to fend off anything that threatens Aloy’s safety as she explores post-apocalyptic Los Angeles.
  • With its mouth and tail, the Waterwing shoots deadly projectile at your enemies. As for its wings, Aloy can command the Waterwing to generate shockwaves which knocks back enemies.

The Waterwing also explains why Burning Shores is exclusive to the PS5

It was revealed in a recent PlayStation Blog article why Burning Shores is releasing exclusively on the PlayStation 5. According to the post, clouds played a large part in this decision. Now that we know more about the Waterwing, seeing it in action and how it affects the game’s environment justifies why it’s a PS5 exclusive.

  • While using the Waterwing mount, players can see realistic graphics and physics in the game. The devs really outdid themselves as the mount’s movements seem fluid and natural. It’s like the machine actually exists in real life.
  • It doesn’t matter if you use the Waterwing to explore in the air or under the water. The graphics are still going to be mind-blowing as it utilizes the power of the PS5.
  • Riding on the Waterwing is an immersive and beautiful experience in Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores. If you’ve already completed the main story for the game, you might want to consider getting this DLC. By doing so, you’ll allow yourself to get immersed in the breathtaking world of Burning Shores.

Release date and pre-order bonuses

Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores releases on April 19, 2023. If you pre-order the game, you get cosmetic bonuses in the game. The first one is the Blacktide Dye Outfit and the second bonus is the Blacktide Sharpshot Bow.
