How to Beat Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze | Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze may be pint-sized, but don’t let that fool you. This little guy’s got some serious moves and a nasty magical streak. But hey, we’re not backing down from a challenge, are we?
| Found inside the Belurat Gaol. To reach it, start from the Belurat Site of Grace, head west, then turn left at the fork. The gaol entrance is hidden behind an illusory wall. |
Onze is all about agility and swift attacks, and he’s got this annoying teleporting trick up his sleeve. But don’t worry, here are some tips on how to defeat him.
Get to know Onze’s Skills:
- Smoky Teleport & Slam: He disappears in a puff of smoke and reappears above you for a devastating slam attack. Dodge at the last second, and you’ll be fine.
- Quick Slashes and Stabs: He’ll come at you with a flurry of attacks, so be ready to dodge and roll.
- Blue/White Glowing Sword Attacks: When his sword starts glowing, watch out! These magical attacks hit harder than his regular ones.
- Four-Hit Slash Combo: He’ll unleash a series of slashes ending with an aerial strike. Be ready to dodge multiple times in a row.
Phase 1
In this phase, Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze relies on his speed and melee attacks. It’s your time to shine.
- Bring along a Spirit Ash-like Black Knife Tiche to distract him and give you some breathing room.
- Don’t let Onze run the show. Get up close and unleash your fury whenever you see an opening.
- Onze is weak to stagger. Keep attacking to interrupt his combos and open him up for critical hits.
Phase 2
- When his health gets low, Onze’s sword will start glowing more often, and his magical attacks will become more frequent.
- His magical attacks have a wider range and hit harder, so be prepared to dodge like crazy.
- If you’re feeling brave, try to interrupt his magical attacks with some well-timed hits.
- Don’t let him catch his breath. Keep attacking, but be extra careful of those magical attacks.
Additional Tips
- Fast weapons like daggers, curved swords, or katanas are great for keeping up with Onze’s speed. If you’re all about strength, grab a colossal weapon for some serious damage.
- If you prefer a more defensive approach, a greatshield can help you absorb a lot of his attacks.
- Use Preserving Boluses to boost your damage negation. If you’re struggling with his magic, try consumables that increase Magic resistance. Keep Demi-Human Swordmaster Onze targeted so you don’t get surprised by his teleportation shenanigans.
- The more you fight him, the better you’ll understand his patterns. Take down Onze, and you’ll walk away with 80,000 Runes and the Demi-Human Swordsman Ashes. That’s right, you can summon your very own mini-Onze to help you in battle. Sweet!
