November 12, 2020, the day when Sony released the PS5 to the world. Except, the world had absolutely no clue how to get one due to stock issues. Five months later, people are still struggling, and hence, we present you with this ultimate guide to securing a PS5 in April 2021.
PS5 Drops and Restocks
Retailers selling the PS5 receive minimum stock, release it online and instantly sell out because of high demand. Hence, we call them PS5 drops and restocks. Here are some of the retailers that sell the PS5 –
- Amazon (drops once a month)
- Antonline (very sneaky drops, bundle-only)
- Adorama (inactive)
- B&H Photo (very small drops)
- Best Buy (long, exhausting drops)
- Costco (bundle-only, members-only drops)
- GameStop (average drops)
- Kohl’s (horrible drops)
- NewEgg (horrible drops)
- PlayStation Direct (invite-only drops)
- Sam’s Club (members-only drops)
- Target (midnight drops)
- Walmart (decent drops)
None of these retailers will inform you days prior that they’re going to drop the PS5. But, every once in a while we see one or the other retailer doing these drops. So, how do you know?
Step 1
Follow Spiel Times on Twitter and join our Discord server. We post updates, drops, and restock info as soon as they’re available. For eg, when GameStop announces they’ll have a drop, we tweet it out and announce it on our Discord server so that you can be prepared. Or when our sources inform us about an upcoming Target drop, we pass on the information.
More than 50,000 people have secured the PS5 through our Twitter and Discord and the number’s only going to increase.
Step 2
Turn on notifications for the channel #drop-news-only on our Discord server. This channel will notify you instantly when there’s a drop or an upcoming one.
Final Step
Stay Alert. Drops sell out within the first 5 minutes at max. So, as soon as you get the Discord notification, jump on it and take action.
Amazon
Amazon drops are the most spontaneous. You’ll hear no prior information about a drop and their dates and timings are all random. Usually, they drop on either 3 am EST or 10 am EST. But since the last drop, there hasn’t been any activity or information regarding Amazon drops. We tweet out whenever there’s an Amazon drop, so our Twitter handle’s your best bet.

Antonline
Antonline sells bundled PS5s only. There’s no fixed timing for them as well, but they have an interesting way to do drops. They’ll set up the PS5s on their website, and drop a tweet out of nowhere that the PS5s are live. As soon as you see the tweet, visit their website and secure the bag. Follow Antonline on Twitter and turn on notifications to get notified. Note that sometimes their bundles are expensive and if you don’t want extra stuff with the console, a different retailer might be your best bet.
Best Buy
Best Buy drops are insane as the traffic to these drops is massive. Sometimes Best Buy may announce the drop dates and timings beforehand, but usually, that’s not the case. Whenever we spot a Best Buy drop happening, we’ll tweet it out and post it on our Discord server. The steps are easy, stay logged in, spam the “Add to Cart” button, keep doing it till you see the PS5 in your cart, and check out. Best Buy drops are hectic and if you are unable to secure one, don’t be upset. There are more retailers on the list.
Costco
Costco drops, again, like every other retailer, have no certain timings or dates. They drop, we tweet it out, and their drops are only for their members. Like Antonline, Costco sells bundled PS5s only.
GameStop
GameStop announces their drops almost half an hour to an hour prior. They announce it through emails, so if you’re signed up for their email listings, you’ll receive an email about their upcoming drop. GameStop drops are fine, but there’s too much rush. So, you need to keep spamming the “Add to Cart” button till you finally see the console in your cart. Recently, GameStop has been selling bundled consoles only.
PlayStation Direct
Don’t use an American Express card, that doesn’t work. Now, recently, Sony has been doing invite-only drops. If you’re signed up for the PS5 notifications on their website, you may be selected and you’ll receive an email invite. Clickthrough, and there’ll be a queue, as soon as the queue ends, you’ll have to go full ninja mode and secure the PS5 as fast as you can.
Sam’s Club
Sam’s Club drops are decent, but for their members-only. So, if you’re an existing Sam’s Club member, you should certainly try your luck. But getting a membership just to secure a PS5 is not advisable. Same formula, they drop, we tweet, no prior announcements.
Target
Target drops are extremely different. They won’t announce anything officially, but our sources inform us whenever a Target drop’s around the corner. So, keep an eye out for a Target-related tweet where we’ll announce the date and timing for their drops. Usually, Target drops around 5 am – 7 am EST. Our friend Jake Randall does a great job at covering and streaming Target drops, so make sure you go follow him on Twitter.
Walmart
Walmart drops are decent as well. They won’t announce anything beforehand, but as soon as there’s a drop, we’ll tweet it out and announce it on our Discord. Securing requires the same, spam technique, and once you see the PS5 in your cart, you’re good to go.
I didn’t write about the other retailers mentioned in the list because their drops aren’t very reliable. Like Kohl’s, they took in dozens of orders and then canceled them. NewEgg, no proper bot protection system, and Adorama, quiet for a very long time now.
