Is Counter-Strike 2 coming to Xbox One and Series X|S?

Valve recently revealed its upcoming gaming, Counter-Strike 2, which is currently under testing as of March 22, 2023. The game is based on the Source 2 engine and will act as an upgrade to the already existing CS:GO. Thus retaining and renewing all the elements the game is known for.

Since Counter-Strike 2 will use Source 2, a lot of changes are coming to core gameplay and visuals too. The smoke grenades have been completely changed and now use volumetrics to give a more tactical approach. Furthermore, the game will also feature 128-tick servers that will be more responsive than its current 64-tick servers.

Being a sequel, many console players have been wondering if it will be present on the Xbox platform. Sadly, no port will be coming for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The competitive shooter will strictly be available on PC via the Steam store and will be completely free to play.

Counter-Strike 2 will not be launching on Xbox, why?

For a long time, Valve has never released its shooter titles for consoles, and the situation remains the same with Counter-Strike 2. Riot Games’ Valorant shares a similar fate as these games are known as competitive shooters.

There are other titles like Call of Duty and Rainbow Six Siege on Xbox, however, they use aim assists. This feature isn’t available on CS2 or any other Counter-Strike games, thus they were never released on consoles. With the lack of aim assist, many beginner console players will have a hard time playing on Xbox.

While many console players are confident enough with their controller aim, it would be tough to react quickly. For instance, there might be times when they need to flick headshots to win a dire situation. With Counter-Strike 2’s weapon mechanics and recoil patterns, it would be hard to do so.

Additionally if a console is released, there will be a need for dedicated servers for them. These players won’t be able to compete with PC gamers as a lot of things are easy to play out in games like Counter-Strike 2 with a mouse and keyboard.
