Khamzat Chimaev is by far the hottest property of the UFC as of now. The Chechnya-born Swedish wrestler tore open the UFC with his aura and dominant performances. He’s soon touted to be the first three-division champ, given his dominance in the UFC. Known for his ferocious wrestling prowess and nasty right hand, this man’s run in the UFC is unbeaten and unstoppable.
However, his hype train almost halted when Chimaev faced off against the then-third-best welterweight Gilbert Burns in a standup scrap fest. Bloodied and hurt, Chimaev was shown as a mere man for the first time in his UFC career. Despite gaps in his fighting style and mentality, Chimaev put on another dominant performance against Kevin Holland and submitted him within one round. However, with a new king in the Middleweight division, Chimaev wants a piece of that too.

Khamzat Chimaev: Conquering two mountains at once
The Borz hype train doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. The Swede is on his way to making a legendary mark in the UFC and hoping to do it in more than one division at the same time.
UFC 281 was, at least to say, a sports drama. One of the most dominant champions of the middleweight divisions was dethroned by a nemesis from his past. Alex Pereira shocked the world by scoring a last-round TKO against Israel Adesanya while losing on the scorecards.

Alex Pereira has been criticized for his lack of ground game. That being said, Chimaev sees the gap in his wrestling, and BJJ like a wolf sees an injured gazelle. The most surprising factor is this, however, that Chimaev is currently on track to the UFC welterweight championship fight. The Swedish fighter seems to be hatching eggs in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions, practically unheard of in the UFC.
Will Khamzat Chimaev be given the middleweight title shot?
Given that Israel Adesanya cleared out the entire division and has been a champion that’s defended his title multiple times, the UFC is more likely to grant him an immediate title shot before they give Chimaev one.

This has to do with the fact that Chimaev is busy enough scaling welterweight as of now. Never say never. However, the UFC has made shocking matchups, both fan favorites and ones that the masses despise.
What’s next for The Borz?
Khamzat Chimaev, as we’ve previously stated, is on track to get himself a welterweight title shot. However, getting there is challenging, as he would have to get past one of the UFC’s best, Colby Covington. A matchup against Covington and Chimaev is in the works, making it, perhaps, Chimaev’s toughest fight yet.
A wrestler versus a wrestler. USA vs. Russia. In a matchup that transcends the sport itself, Chimaev would likely end up fighting Colby Covington before he gets to a fight in the Middleweight division. Given Chimaev’s weight cut issue in his last welterweight bout, however, it is no surprise that he would prefer a middleweight fight here on time. All in good time, as winter is coming, and so is the wolf.
