Little Orpheus’ initial launch for its PC and console ports has been rescheduled. Secret Mode, the publisher behind the critically-acclaimed mobile side-scrolling game issued a statement on Tuesday.
They made the decision “in light of recent world events,” according to their statement.
Secret Mode is referring to the current situation between Ukraine and Russia. Because Little Orpheus’ storyline revolves around a Soviet cosmonaut, the publishers felt that this “may be upsetting to players at this time.” The game also features a Russian general (with a stereotypical accent) narrating and interrogating the protagonist of Little Orpheus.
Secret Mode issued the statement on Twitter. Linked below is their official announcement:

The Chinese Room developed Little Orpheus. They are the team behind classics like Korsakovia, Dear Esther, and the Amnesia series. Although Little Orpheus doesn’t have the horror elements of Amnesia, the themes and Cold War setting of the game make up for it. Its gameplay also looks and feels similar to side-scrolling hit, Little Nightmares.
In Little Orpheus, you play Ivan Ivanovich, a Soviet cosmonaut dropped in an extinct volcano. His initial mission was to explore the center of the Earth but he disappears for three years. He reappears and is captured by General Yurkovoi, who interrogates him about his journey to the center of the Earth. But other than that, General Yurkovoi interrogates Ivan about how he lost the atomic bomb powering his ship, the Little Orpheus.
It is still available to download from Apple Arcade.
Little Orpheus was first released on Apple Arcade last June 2020. It has garnered multiple gaming nominations for its creative storytelling, gameplay, and overall design. As of writing, interested players can still download it and see what Little Orpheus is all about.

Just a minor quibble. The Chinese Room, one of my all time favorite developers, is behind only one of the three Amnesia games, specifically A Machine for Pigs. The series itself, along with the first and third entry, is by Frictional. The Chinese Room also developed Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, an absolute masterpiece in my humble opinion.
This is sad to see, as Little Orpheus is an absolute delight and shows an entirely new side to the studio. I do, however, completely understand the decision.
