NBA: Courtside VR | How does it work?

NBA Courtside VR

The exhilarating world of professional basketball has now entered a new era with the introduction of cutting-edge technology: Courtside Virtual Reality (VR). As fans crave a more immersive and interactive experience, the NBA has embraced the power of virtual reality to transport enthusiasts from their living rooms directly to the heart of the action on the court. But how does this captivating technology work? In this article, we delve into the inner workings of NBA’s Courtside VR, unraveling the magic behind its creation and exploring the mind-boggling features that have revolutionized the way we perceive and engage with the game we love. Read more below to learn more about this amazing technology and how this idea works.

What is the NBA Courtside VR(Virtual Reality)?

If you are an avid basketball fan and want to take your viewing experience to greater heights, look no further. Mark Zuckerberg and Meta have already partnered with NBA recently to create an immersive experience for those who love to watch their favorite teams via Virtual Reality (VR).

Meta Quest or Oculus Quest is Meta’s premiered VR headset and the medium you will be using to immerse yourself on the courtside of actual NBA games, in real-time. You will get to be sitting alongside head coaches, staff, and players near the bench for a greater viewing experience. Truly, you’ll be closer to your favorite players than ever.

How does the NBA Courtside VR work?

If you already own a Meta Quest VR headset, it’s pretty easy. Just follow these simple steps to watch available NBA games on VR:

  • Download the “Xtadium” app in the Meta Quest VR headset. Xtadium and Meta Horizon Worlds allow you to watch some NBA games for free.
  • Open the Xtadium app
  • Select your preferred NBA game and enjoy watching!

In January this year, Meta announced they will be featuring 50 upcoming games (NBA, WNBA, G-League, and 2k League). They informed me that these are just regular viewing games. However, 5 of them will be featuring celebrity broadcasters and be shown in 180-degree immersive VR. This means you will definitely enjoy the courtside feeling in these five games. Aside from that, you will also get to enjoy high-quality content as well as some highlights and game recap. But, you have to take note that Xtadium is only available in the United States.

On a side note, you can take it to the next level by purchasing NBA-licensed apparel in the Metaverse

March 2023 – Mark Zuckerberg announced they are putting NBA-licensed apparel in the Meta Avatars Stores. This could be a great way to don your favorite NBA-inspired items and represent your favorite teams on your social media (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and Metaverse). You can still hop in on the fun since fans still have time to buy these apparel until the 2022-2023 NBA season ends in June.

Meanwhile, Meta Quest also had their latest breakout hit with their newest app, Gym Class – VR Basketball. Immerse yourself in the real joy of playing basketball with realistic physics and crowd noises by just playing on your VR headset.
