NBA: DeMarcus Cousins Signs with the Nuggets (2021-2022 Season)

Denver, Colorado – The Denver Nuggets had just recently signed the former All-Star big man DeMarcus Cousins for the rest of the 2021-2022 NBA Season after a 10-day contract.

Cousins, a 10-year veteran has been jumping around the league since his Achilles Tendon injury back in 2018 and a torn ACL during the 2019-2020 season. He previously played as a role player in Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, and Milwaukee Bucks before being signed by the Nuggets.

The 4-time NBA All-Star had a promising career before his career-defining injuries got the best of him. When he was drafted back in 2010, he showed huge potential and a very high ceiling for a center. Earlier in his career, in his time with the Sacramento Kings, he has shown the world that he is one of the best centers in the league.

Standing at 6 feet and 11 inches, DeMarcus Cousins, or Boogie, is a very agile center with impeccable footwork. He is quick for a player his size and is also very strong in the post. There was a time during his prime when he was hailed as the no.1 center in the NBA.

Boogie played for Sac-Town for 7 seasons but never made a single playoff appearance with the team. Even though Cousins was a great athlete, the organization was not able to build a good team around him.

After his playing years in Sacramento, he was traded by the Kings to the New Orleans Pelicans. There, he would team up with another superstar big man, Anthony Davis. The two would play great together but would find it difficult to achieve a successful playoff run. Unfortunately, Cousins would tear his Achilles Tendon in 2018.

DeMarcus Cousins was also criticized by the basketball community for trying to chase rings when he joined the Golden State Warriors in 2019 (which failed to get the championship), and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

This time around, Boogie is once again playing in a championship contender team.

Denver Nuggets needs a player of his caliber – A traditional center who can score both inside and outside the paint. They also need size and length to protect the rim. His veteran presence on the court would highly benefit the team while also serving as Nikola Jokic’s back-up.

The Nuggets are a bit short-handed as they are missing two of their key players in Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. Although they lack manpower as of late, they are still in the 6th seed in a loaded Western Conference.

He has a short temper, which usually gets him a technical foul. He’s cocky and talks a lot of trash. But he’s probably matured since. To add, his injuries proved his durability in the game. Nobody can assure if he will be able to play 100% due to his injury history. But, everybody deserves another shot. He is still 31 years old and can still play well. His career averages show that he had a great career behind him.

Career Averages: 19.9 PPG, 10.4 RPG, 3.1 APG
