Can Slater Young get any more hated? Budding engineer, entrepreneur, and social media influencer Slate Young is being slammed again online. After revealing his newest project, the Skypod 3.0 or Monterrazas de Cebu, netizens reacted to Slater’s plan to turn the mountains of Cebu, Philippines into a luxurious resort.

Slater Young and Monterrazas de Cebu

An experienced civil engineer and businessman, Jan Slater Young always had visions for the most groundbreaking designs and ideas. From his innovative concrete formula or the LiteCrete to his mesmerizing Skypods, Slater Young is a man of amazing architecture and engineering. Just recently, the engineer turned influencer revealed his newest project, Skypod 3.0 known as the Monterrazas de Cebu/The Rise at Monterrazas.

As observed (and told by Young), The Rise at Monterrazas is basically inspired by the Banaue Rice Terraces in North Luzon. Located in the mountainous area of Guadalupe, Cebu City, the Monterrazas boasts a condominium-style building but with a twist. The project has 146 units, with the cheapest one being sold for a staggering ₱125 Million. Slater’s vision is to create an architecturally forward design as well as being very sustainable not just for the user, but also for the environment.

Not everybody seems to like Slater’s new project

Many were amazed and mesmerized by the new Monterrazas project. However, others think otherwise. Netizens found the idea to be detrimental to nature and could cause a lot of problems. One Twitter user said Slater Young is becoming the “Cynthia Villar of Engineering” with his concepts. Furthermore, people are calling the social media icon a hypocrite for promoting green architecture while he destroys the mountain. Obviously, only the rich and elite can afford these houses which started a ruckus online.

On the other hand, we can’t deny how mind-boggling these are. Although the Filipinos have divided opinions about the Monterrazas, there’s without a doubt this is a major breakthrough in Philippine architecture.
