Just 40 days after he announced his retirement, Tom Brady is coming back this season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This will be his 23rd season in NFL, and his 3rd season with the Bucs.
Tom Brady previously announced back in February that he will call it a career after 22 years of professional football. Though he publicly made that announcement, he still hinted that he was not throwing the option of “playing again” out of the window.
The 7-time Super Bowl champion said that he has “changed his mind” and will be returning to the field.
Brady is making the headlines as of now because of his intriguing announcement. As a result, he has already gathered mixed reactions from the league, players, media, and fans.
“These past two months I have realized my place is still on the field and not in the stands,” Brady said in a social media posting. “That time will come. But it’s not now.
With Brady’s return to the Buccaneers, their free agency and offseason moves may be changed abruptly. For one, the Bucs were already eyeing Blaine Gabbert and Kyle Trask as their new quarterbacks. They also have to adjust their salary cap space and a new contract for Brady’s return.
Tom Brady, who is arguably the Greatest of All-Time in the National Football League (NFL), has won seven Super Bowls. In these championships, he was named the MVP 5 times. He was also awarded the league MVP thrice in his career. Additionally, he already owns NFL career passing records with 7,263 completions on 11,317 attempts for 84,520 yards and 624 touchdowns.
