PlayStation Acquires Bungie For $3.6 Billion
A $3.6 billion deal has been revealed between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2 and creators of the Halo franchise. They will become an “independent subsidiary” of Sony Interactive Entertainment.
Bungie will continue to operate as a multi-platform company that can self-publish. Additionally, they will keep their present executive board, which includes CEO Pete Parsons. Aside from fresh content and support for Destiny 2, the team is planning to grow the Destiny brand and develop an as yet unknown IP.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to welcome Bungie to the PlayStation family! Bungie create community-driven games with outstanding technology that are enormous fun to play, and I know that everyone at PlayStation Studios will be excited about what we can share and learn together.”

Bungie will also continue to distribute its upcoming video games on a variety of platforms after Sony completes its acquisition. Meaning, they won’t be limited to PlayStation. This has been verified by the company’s CEO, Pete Parsons, in a post on the PlayStation blog.
“We remain in charge of our destiny. We will continue to independently publish and creatively develop our games.
Our games will continue to be where our community is, wherever they choose to play.”
– Pete Parsons, Bungie CEO
Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is just the latest example of the lengthy time it takes to see the fruits of a significant industry acquisition become functional and produce profits. On the other hand, Parsons has spoken of an “immediate change” from this collaboration; an increase in recruiting for their future projects, as seen by the openings section of their website.

Since March 2021, I've worn two hats at Spiel Times: a writer and a Managing Editor. In my writing role, I've earned recognition from Wikipedia and Nev Schulman (Catfish TV Show host) for my insightful analysis and engaging narrative style. I'm passionate about all things gaming, with a keen eye for detail and a knack for uncovering hidden secrets within games. My gaming journey began at a young age, captivated by titles like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. Today, I enjoy exploring open-world RPGs and MMORPGs, consumed by their lore and crafting theories about their narratives. I'm also drawn to the suspenseful atmosphere of horror games and the intricate narratives of crime-themed titles, bringing a unique perspective to my writing. Beyond gaming, I have a fascination with anything unexplained and chilling, a passion that often spills over into my exploration of horror games. When I'm not engrossed in a virtual world, you can find me curled up and spending time with my adorable doggy sidekick, Teemo. As Managing Editor, I'm committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for our writing team. I communicate openly with my team members, addressing any content-related issues and providing guidance to help them excel.
