RM Palmer Update: Gas Leak reported in Pennsylvania following Chocolate Factory Explosion

A gas leak was mentioned in the initial incident report submitted by Berks County to PEMA and was suggested as a potential cause of the explosion at the RM Palmer Chocolate Factory in Pennsylvania. The maintenance mechanic at RM Palmer, Bradley White, claims that he and his coworkers smelled gas prior to the incident.

Details of the deadly Chocolate Factory Explosion and Ongoing Investigation

Seven individuals were killed in a huge explosion that tore through a chocolate factory in West Reading, Pennsylvania, on Friday, March 24, 2023. The cause of the explosion is still being investigated by the police.

A single person was discovered alive in the wreckage overnight on Friday and sent to a hospital. At a press conference on Monday afternoon, Chief Wayne Holben of the West Reading Borough Police Department announced that the official search and rescue operation had come to an end and that cleanup work would now begin.

10 Individuals hurt in the Explosion

• Officials reported 10 additional persons were hurt in the explosion and transported to Reading Hospital during a conference on Monday.
• 10 individuals received emergency room care.
  • 2 were admitted to the hospital.
  • 1 was moved to the burn unit.
• Since then, 8 of the victims have been returned home.
