The Stalker series, which features post-apocalyptic environment shooter games, is an award-winning PC game series with a huge following. The new installation, Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl, is making a console debut! The PC and Xbox Series X/S release date is at the end of April 2022. The game features one of the biggest open worlds filled with mutants, radiation, and anomalies, all left to the player to explore. Each choice defines the path the player will experience in the game as they find their way through the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
GSC game world, the developer of Stalker 2, has been known to use custom engines for their titles. However, it was no secret that Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is going to run on Epic’s Unreal Engine. The specific question was which version of Unreal Engine was Stalker 2 going to be built on. Since the development of the current version of Stalker 2 began in 2018 itself, it was assumed that a tweaked version of Unreal Engine 4 was going to be used as the basis for the title.
STALKER 2 x Unreal Engine 5
- On August 11, Unreal Engine posted an exciting tweet. The official Stalker account confirmed that Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is running on Unreal Engine 5.
- When Unreal Engine responded to the reply saying they thought it was a secret, the Stalker account responded with an Unreal Engine 5 developer screenshot!

Even though Unreal Engine 5’s final launch is not till 2022, anyone who had the chance to catch a glimpse of what’s possible with Unreal Engine 5’s nanite and Lumen systems will be excited to get their hands on Stalker 2. And of course, pretty much any other game built on it.
