Star Wars Ahsoka: Sabine Wren Surprise Force-Push Explained

Sabine Wren

The Ahsoka finale left fans with an exhilarating sense of action and intrigue, but it also sparked some debate over Sabine Wren’s newfound Force abilities. Despite struggling to move a cup or open a door throughout the show, Sabine was suddenly able to connect with the Force in Episode 8, and some viewers deemed it as too abrupt. While some viewers questioned the suddenness of her Force proficiency, others defended this character development as something that Sabine has been working on for longer than just eight episodes of the Star Wars series.

Sabine Wren Finally Becomes a Force User in Ahsoka Episode 8: Impossible or Not?

In the Ahsoka finale, Sabine Wren and Ezra Bridger join forces with Ahsoka Tano in their mission to prevent Grand Admiral Thrawn from leaving Peridea. Despite overcoming various obstacles and adversaries, they arrived at the Chimaera just as it was about to depart.

However, they were too late to board. In a crucial moment, Sabine implored Ezra to jump onto the ship, promising to push him if needed. To the surprise of some fans, Sabine then used the Force to propel Ezra onto the vessel.

It was a truly fantastic moment, thanks to the soundtrack and the sheer impact of Sabine’s Force push actually propelling Ezra onto the ship.

However, some viewers were not convinced it would be possible, considering that Sabine Wren struggled to harness the Force throughout the series. It was noted that the Mandalorian couldn’t even move a cup in the third episode but can now push an entire person through the air safely.

The implausibility of it all has resulted in people calling Sabine a “Mary Sue,” just like the Star Wars sequel character Rey, and believing that Dave Filoni “rushed” the Force abilities to please the fans in the finale.

So, did Sabine’s sudden mastery of the Force in the finale seem implausible? Many Star Wars enthusiasts defended the surprise Force push by offering a simple explanation for the Mandalorian’s newfound abilities.

Sabine’s Force Push Explained

Throughout the series, Sabine’s overarching goal has been to bring Ezra back home. In the crucial moment of Episode 8, she recognized that getting into the Chimaera was the only way to achieve this goal. With her purpose clarified, Sabine could finally tap into the Force and use it to propel Ezra onto the ship.

In truth, the Force push was not a sudden thing for the character. It was the accumulation of her desire to save her friend and ensure his safety as he went back to their galaxy and fulfilled his true purpose.

This character development makes sense in the story’s context, allowing Sabine Wren to fulfill her long-standing wish of bringing Ezra home. Unfortunately, despite her success in reuniting with Ezra, she and Ahsoka found themselves stranded on Peridea.

On the other hand, the two may not be stuck in a different galaxy for too long as the New Republic needs help and will undoubtedly stop at nothing to find them. As the series potentially moves forward with a second season, fans eagerly await further developments in the story and the characters’ journeys.

  • As of now, Lucasfilm and Disney have not officially announced Ahsoka Season 2, leaving fans in anticipation of what lies ahead for the popular series. In the meantime, all eight episodes of the first season are available for streaming on Disney+.
