Take-Two Acquires Zynga, Plans F2P Mobile Games

BY JC Paredes 4 years AGO 2 MIN READ

A few hours earlier, Take-Two announced that they struck an acquisition deal with Zynga for $12.7B. Take-Two has delivered us the first massive transaction in the world of video games in 2022.

Beyond the official statements issued by both companies, we are also gradually discovering more information about the transaction; including the purposes that prompted Take-Two to acquire a company that specializes in free-to-play games for mobile devices.

“We are thrilled to announce our transformative transaction with Zynga, which significantly diversifies our business and establishes our leadership position in mobile, the fastest growing segment of the interactive entertainment industry.
Combining Zynga’s expertise in mobile and next-generation platforms with Take-Two’s best-in-class capabilities and intellectual property will enable us to further advance our mission to connect the world through games while achieving significant growth and synergies together.”
– Straus Zelnick, Take-Two CEO

Take-Two appears to wish to spread its sagas on mobile devices with the acquisition of Zynga; assuming it is without impediments from various economic entities. This is while its studios continue to make progress on titles of great appeal to loyal fans like GTA 6; which, according to a Rockstar source, will be unveiled during the year 2022.

“I am proud of our team’s hard work to deliver a strong finish to 2021, with one of the best performances in Zynga’s history. We are incredibly excited to have found a partner in Take-Two that shares our commitment to investing in our players, amplifying our creative culture, and generating more value for stockholders.
With this transformative transaction, we begin a new journey which will allow us to create even better games, reach larger audiences, and achieve significant growth as a leader in the next era of gaming.”
– Straus Zelnick, Take-Two CEO

Since March 2021, I've worn two hats at Spiel Times: a writer and a Managing Editor. In my writing role, I've earned recognition from Wikipedia and Nev Schulman (Catfish TV Show host) for my insightful analysis and engaging narrative style. I'm passionate about all things gaming, with a keen eye for detail and a knack for uncovering hidden secrets within games. My gaming journey began at a young age, captivated by titles like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider. Today, I enjoy exploring open-world RPGs and MMORPGs, consumed by their lore and crafting theories about their narratives. I'm also drawn to the suspenseful atmosphere of horror games and the intricate narratives of crime-themed titles, bringing a unique perspective to my writing. Beyond gaming, I have a fascination with anything unexplained and chilling, a passion that often spills over into my exploration of horror games. When I'm not engrossed in a virtual world, you can find me curled up and spending time with my adorable doggy sidekick, Teemo. As Managing Editor, I'm committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment for our writing team. I communicate openly with my team members, addressing any content-related issues and providing guidance to help them excel.
