Walmart “Hoarding” PS5 Consoles; Claims Viral TikTok

The holiday period has landed, which means more frustration for families and gamers wishing to get their hands on a PlayStation 5. Consider a scenario in which a large chain seems to have a huge stash of PS5s but chooses to “hoard” them for the holiday season. Thanks to a TikTok video from a distribution warehouse, there is no doubt that a great deal of uproar will emerge.

User hishamhasan3 created the viral TikTok in question. His TikTok footage captures a scene from inside what seems to be a Walmart storage facility, with warehouse racks stacked high with PlayStation 5 consoles. The quantity of PS5s on the shelves isn’t known for sure, but it’s possible to be in the hundreds, if not thousands.

Hishamhasan3’s post has received a massive amount of views on TikTok. At the time of writing, it has received over 3 million visits, close to 400 thousand likes, and nearly 5,000 comments. No one is invading Area 51 anymore, according to one user, so it’s time to invade Walmart. Others complain about not having enough money to buy a PS5 in the first place.

Christmas Sale?

• One popular theory is that Walmart is stockpiling PS5s in anticipation of the Christmas shopping season. To put it another way, getting the PS5 on sale for Black Friday guarantees that consumers will buy in-store over Thanksgiving weekend.
• Other commenters, including at least one claiming to work for Walmart, contend that this is common and that Walmart only disperses a small volume of its stock at a time.

Unfortunately, even if Walmart released all of its PS5 supplies today, there will still almost undoubtedly be a massive console shortage in the United States. Sony even acknowledged in May that the PS5 shortage will last until 2022. This is despite the fact that the PS5 outsold the PS4 by more than 10 million units.
